In this month’s Affiliate Spotlight, we’re thrilled to celebrate the extraordinary volunteers whose dedication and passion were key to the success of our recent events. Their efforts were nothing short of inspiring, and we’re honored to recognize their contributions.

On August 15, 2024, a diverse and dedicated group of Move to Amend’s (MTA) co-directors, board members, and grassroots leaders gathered in the vibrant city of Chicago, Illinois. From the very start, it was clear that this would be a week of collaborative spirit and profound activism. 

As Congress continues its break through the Labor Day week, the opportunity continues to make your voice heard where it counts—right in your own district!

Recently, several Move to Amend board members and co-directors lobbied Congresspersons at the Democratic National Convention to co-sponsor H.J.R. 54, the We the People Amendment.

It wasn’t easy. We had to find out what hotels state delegations were staying in all over Chicago, then get past security to enter the hotels, then instantaneously match their professional photographs to their current appearance (which sometimes was very different!) and, finally, while dodging their aide make a quick pitch directly to the Congressperson as they were heading to breakfast or a meeting, talking with others or having their pictures taken.

Wow, what a powerful start to our week at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago! As we close out Day 1, we want to share the exciting highlights and invite you to join us for the remaining days of action and advocacy.

Our presence was unmistakable today. Move to Amend members turned heads and sparked conversations with dramatic visual statements by wearing robes adorned with corporate logos, symbolizing the ultra-corporate-friendly Supreme Court. Furthermore, one of our co-directors also portrayed a character from The Handmaid’s Tale, highlighting the ongoing attacks on women’s rights. 

This month, we are thrilled to highlight the incredible efforts of our MTA Alaska group and the ongoing initiatives to revive our presence in Chicago. Both regions are playing pivotal roles in advancing our mission and exemplifying the spirit of grassroots activism.

At Move to Amend, we are dedicated to ensuring that corporations and other artificial entities do not hold Constitutional rights, and that campaign spending can be regulated to limit the influence of money in politics. Our Pledge to Amend campaign seeks commitments from candidates for public office to support these crucial goals.

The political landscape is shifting rapidly. Just last month, the Presidential debate dominated headlines, but recent events have shifted our focus to more urgent issues. This email was originally about last month's Presidential debate in Atlanta, but so much has happened in our political circus since then that it seems irrelevant to the current conversations taking place. However, the intended message remains the same: this election and these recent Supreme Court decisions have laid bare to the average voter the sorry state our so-called democracy finds itself in.

It has become clear that no part of our duopoly, whether Republican or Democrat, is coming to save us from the menace of political corruption and capitalist profiteering. And so, we must come to save ourselves.

As we face the critical challenges of our time, the urgency for passing H.J.R. 54, the We the People Amendment, is greater than ever. Our collective action is crucial to ensuring that our government truly represents the interests of the people.

In a powerful display of grassroots activism, Move to Amend's dedicated leaders and volunteers have once again proven their unwavering commitment to ending corporate rule and advocating for a government that truly represents the people. This month, we shine our spotlight on two extraordinary efforts: Sandy Bolzenius' inspiring journey to Washington, DC, and the tireless advocacy of our Miami County, Ohio, team, and the determined efforts of our Santa Clara County, California, affiliates.

Our time in Washington, DC has been both inspiring and impactful. We've engaged with key congressional offices, celebrated Juneteenth in Anacostia, and stood firm in our advocacy at the Supreme Court. Now, we need to take our efforts to the next level - but we need your support!
