This month, we shine the spotlight on Robert Scull, a dedicated volunteer from North Carolina's 2nd district. Robert’s unwavering persistence and strategic approach have paid off, as he has successfully secured an in-person meeting with Congresswoman Deborah Ross on Friday, October 11, 2024.
Despite facing challenges in rallying support for the critical issue of money in politics within his precinct, where attendance at meetings can be modest, Robert has not been deterred. He engaged with local progressive caucuses, crafted compelling outreach efforts, and collaborated with other activists to create a robust lobbying strategy. His tenacity is a testament to the impact that individual commitment can have on driving change in our political system.
In his own words, Robert expressed the hurdles he encountered: "The topic of money corrupting the political system draws very little traction in my precinct... However, I’m thoroughly convinced that our party has been corrupted as well." Yet, Robert's determination led him to connect with influential local leaders and encourage broader community engagement.
We commend Robert for his proactive efforts and dedication to the cause. His meeting with Congresswoman Ross presents a vital opportunity to advocate for the We the People Amendment (H.J.Res.54) and push for greater accountability in our political system.

We also want to recognize the fantastic work being done by our Greater Daytona Move to Amend group! Mary Sue has submitted their monthly affiliate report, sharing that they have wrapped up some Pledge to Amend contacts. While they have yet to secure new respondents, they are gearing up to table at a GOTV rally in early October. We’re excited to see their continued engagement and outreach efforts!
Lastly, we want to highlight Fernanda Lugo, a passionate volunteer from El Paso, who is working diligently to encourage her Representative, Veronica Escobar, to co-sponsor the We the People Amendment. Fernanda will be the featured speaker at our Ecology Network event in November, where she will lead participants in creating a Singing Tree mural. This initiative not only promotes awareness about environmental issues but also fosters community and artistic collaboration.
Thank you to all our volunteers for your hard work and commitment. Your efforts are what drive our mission forward!
