November brings with it a unique blend of political turbulence and hopeful strides for our collective mission. The recent disarray in the U.S. House of Representatives echoes a historical hiatus, marking the longest period without a clear leadership since 1962. This void in governance, coupled with the unsettling ascent of a new Speaker who ardently champions fossil fuels while disregarding the urgent clarion call of climate concerns, casts a stark shadow on the state of our political system and the very future of our planet.

The challenges we face are dire and cannot be understated. It's evident that the decisions made by our leaders today have profound implications for generations to come. The direction in which our country steers, especially in terms of environmental policies, impacts not only our immediate future but the viability of our planet for years to come.

Yet, amidst this congressional turmoil, we must highlight the beacon of progress and determination. The movement of "We the People" continues to gather momentum and make strides in the corridors of power. As of November 3rd, 2023, Representative Dina Titus from Nevada's 1st Congressional District joined as the 72nd cosponsor of the crucial H.J.R. 54, The We the People Amendment.

This milestone is a testament to the power of persistence and dedicated grassroots activism. It exemplifies the impact each of us can have by consistently engaging with our elected representatives, even during challenging times in Congress. It underscores the importance of not relenting in our efforts to build the political will necessary for the passage of HJR 54, the We the People Amendment.

Therefore, we call on you, our vibrant and impassioned community, to continue your unwavering support by persistently reaching out to your Representatives. We invite you to join us in our endeavor to amplify our voices, urging every concerned citizen to take a proactive stance in shaping our political landscape.

We've said many times, 'We would be nothing without our affiliates, advocates, and supporters.' They do a lot of the heavy lifting, which is why we've been recognizing all they do for the movement each month.

Each month we will use this space to spotlight different Affiliates. This month we want to spotlight the remarkable efforts and accomplishments of the Santa Clara County Move to Amend (SCC-MTA) affiliate group.

Their recent October meeting reflected an array of significant achievements, initiatives, and ongoing actions that demonstrate their unwavering commitment to the movement.

One of the key successes for the SCC-MTA group involves Rep. Kevin Mullin from CA-15th, who has emerged as a cosponsor, amplifying the voice for reform. Furthermore, garnering an endorsement from Jonah Menkov, the Democracy Campaign Co-Director at Public Citizen, stands as a testament to the group's growing recognition and support.

The SCC-MTA affiliate team is leaving no stone unturned in their quest for change. Their meticulous action plan spans various fronts:

  1. Engaging Political Representatives: The group is persistently reaching out to influential figures such as Pelosi in CD-11 and Padilla/Senate sponsor, seeking their support for amendments crucial to the cause. The efforts to rally potential California Senators like Katie Porter, Lee, and Schiff for their sponsorship in Senate Bill highlights their proactive stance.

  2. Organizational Outreach: Collaborations and partnerships with organizations such as the League of Women Voters, UUSJ, Public Citizen, San Jose State University, and the South Bay Labor Council underscore the SCC-MTA's commitment to building a robust network.

  3. Education and Advocacy: The focus on education through a range of activities, including virtual movie nights, engagement with students at San Jose State University, and ongoing training sessions, showcases the dedication to spreading awareness and knowledge.

Amidst their manifold efforts, the SCC-MTA group is also actively working on financial aspects, seeking progress reports and exploring avenues for funding and campaign initiatives, such as the "Democracy Dollars" campaign and further engagement with national partners.

The breadth and depth of their activities are a testament to their unwavering commitment and ongoing dedication to the cause of democratic reform.

A special mention to Move to Amend Miami County Ohio: we want to send a heartfelt shoutout to the Move to Amend Miami County Ohio affiliate. Their persistent engagement with the Movement Education Program, participation in events such as the Independent & Democratic Alliance launch party, and subsequent connections forged reflect their commitment to spreading the movement’s message even in neighboring counties.

As we approach the year's end, the energy and enthusiasm exhibited by these affiliates underscore the vitality of grassroots activism and the power of collective action. The continued dedication of these affiliates in Santa Clara County and Miami County, Ohio, sets a stirring example for others within the Move to Amend community and beyond.

Don't forget to submit your monthly affiliate reports.

These reports are a crucial tool for spotlighting the incredible efforts of our affiliates across the country and provide a platform for sharing best practices, success stories, and challenges faced in the fight for a constitutional amendment to end corporate personhood and money as speech in our political system.
