As we welcome the vibrant energy of spring, we're excited to share the latest updates and opportunities with you. From significant progress in Congress to upcoming events and ways to get involved, there's a lot to look forward to. Let's dive into what's happening at Move to Amend and how you can make a difference!
🏛️ Congressional Update:
We have thrilling news! H.J.R. 54, the We the People Amendment, now has 84 Congressional cosponsors! In May, we welcomed Rep. Suzanne Bonamici from Oregon's 1st District to our growing list of supporters.
Earlier this month, Move to Amend Board Member Michael Tucker took to Capitol Hill to advocate for H.J.R. 54. Loaded with information packets, he met with key legislative staff and left materials with many others. Thanks to his efforts, several representatives expressed strong interest, and others have committed to reviewing our materials.
Following Michael, our long-time advocate Lawrence Abbott also visited DC, ensuring our message remains front and center.
We also have a special video message from Rep. Pramila Jayapal, the lead sponsor of H.J.R. 54, sharing why this amendment is crucial for our democracy. Watch her inspiring words and feel the energy driving our mission forward.
But we can’t stop there. To build the political will necessary for more cosponsors, your continued pressure is essential. They need to hear from YOU, {{recipient.first_name_or_friend}}! Take Action Now! 📞
Looking ahead, our co-directors will be in DC this June, participating in various public events and continuing our advocacy efforts.
Here's a snapshot of some key events and activities you can participate in:
- Juneteenth Events & Lobbying in Washington, DC: June 19-21
- Veterans for Peace Walk for Peace and Planet, Justice & Democracy Concluding in Washington, DC: July 2-8
- DNC Convention / Bird-dogging in Chicago: August 19-23
- And check out the recap from the May Day events in Chicago here.
Here are other ways you can contribute to the success of H.J.R. 54
📢 Pledge to Amend: Show Your Commitment One of the most impactful ways to support our cause is by urging candidates for public office to take the Pledge to Amend. By signing the pledge, candidates commit to using their office to advance and support H.J.R. 54, the We the People Amendment. Encourage your local candidates to take the pledge and show their commitment to ensuring that corporations and other artificial entities do not have constitutional rights, and that money is not considered speech.
Collect Petition Signatures: Help us reach 600,000 signatures by collecting them at community events, farmers' markets, or even online. Get started with a recruiter ID and share it with your network.
Volunteer: Join our grassroots efforts by volunteering with a local Move to Amend affiliate. From tabling at events to organizing workshops, there's always something you can do to help.
Donate: Every dollar you contribute directly fuels our grassroots efforts. Without your generosity, we can’t organize in-person events, advocate for change, or make our voices heard on the Hill. Your gift is the key to continuing our fight to put corporations in their place and end money in politics.
