The August recess is upon us, and this is a critical time to push for the We the People Amendment (House Joint Resolution 54)!
As Congress heads back to their districts, your Representatives will be more accessible than ever—and it's the perfect opportunity for YOU to ask them to co-sponsor the amendment. Whether you're a seasoned advocate or just starting out, this is your moment to take action. Learn how!

🏛️ Congressional update:
We currently have 61 cosponsors in the House, with Rep. Terri A. Sewell from AL-7) coming onboard on 07/14/2025, and Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA-18) coming on board on 07/14/2025, plus TWO more representatives who have already agreed to join, with details coming soon!
With a vast percentage of Americans supporting a systemic reform like the We the People Amendment, it's time to demand that Congress catches up with the will of the people. The corporate influence on our democracy is overwhelming, and the We the People Amendment seeks to end corporate personhood and reduce the power of big money in our political system.
Now, here’s what YOU can do:
-
Check if your Representative is a cosponsor of the We the People Amendment—if they are, thank them for their support, and ask them to encourage their colleagues to sign on.
-
Use our One Click Politics tool to call and email your Representative and urge them to support H.J.Res. 54. It’s quick and easy to take action.
-
Request a constituent lobby meeting: Representatives are back in their districts this August, which means it’s the perfect time to request a face-to-face meeting and advocate for the We the People Amendment.
-
Use this time to also engage with upcoming candidates for next year’s election cycle and ask them to pledge their support!
-
Start scheduling meetings now: Representatives’ schedules fill up quickly, so don’t wait! Reach out early, and be prepared to lobby them effectively during August.
It’s now time to make your voice heard!
👉 August 14th, join the Ecology Network monthly call
Join us for the next Ecology Network call, featuring Dr. Christopher Basaldú of the South Texas Environmental Justice Network (STEJN).
Dr. Basaldú, a member of the Carrizo Comecrudo Nation and a leading advocate for environmental and social justice in South Texas, will be discussing the ongoing fight to protect sacred lands and the environment from corporate polluters like SpaceX and LNG. As a founding member of STEJN, Dr. Basaldú has been at the forefront of efforts to halt the harmful environmental impacts caused by these major corporations, particularly in the region's vulnerable communities.
One critical issue being highlighted in his work is the continued expansion of SpaceX's operations at Starbase, including a major upcoming launch on August 27th. Dr. Basaldú will talk about the efforts of the South Texas Environmental Justice Network to stop further space launches by pressuring South Texas representatives. These groups are leading a letter campaign urging the suspension of future space activities.
This call is a crucial opportunity to learn about the intense grassroots work being done to prevent further environmental degradation and to explore ways we can collectively take action to protect South Texas.
Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 5:00 PM PT / 8:00 PM ET
Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from one of the key voices in this battle for environmental justice and to find out how you can support the ongoing campaign to stop further space activities in South Texas. Partake in the letter campaign here.

Shaker Heights Democracy Day - September 8
Move to Amend is proud to support the Shaker Heights Democracy Day Public Hearing on September 8, 2025, at 7:00 PM at the Shaker Heights City Council (3400 Lee Rd, Shaker Hts, OH 44120).
This biannual event is an essential part of Shaker Heights’ fight for a 28th amendment to the U.S. Constitution, asserting that only human beings, not corporations, have constitutional rights and that money should not be equated with speech.

Since 2016, Shaker Heights has held public hearings to discuss the corrupting influence of corporate power and big money in politics. This year marks the fifth Democracy Day, where community members will have a chance to speak on these crucial issues. City Council will then send letters to our Congressperson and Senator, urging them to pass a 28th amendment.
If you are able to, please join us in supporting the fight for a democracy free from corporate control. To attend or speak at the hearing, RSVP below!

This month, we’re highlighting the Santa Clara, CA affiliate for their strong efforts at the San Jose and Milpitas No Kings events, their lobbying for SB 42, and their success in securing HJR 54 co-sponsors. Our Minnesota affiliates are also making strides with impactful organizing. And we also wish to shine a bright light on our new Move to Amend advocates joining the movement!
