Move to Amend’s effort to end political corruption and create justice and democracy by passing the We the People Amendment was among THE most important and repeated messages at the national Money Out of Politics rally on July 27 on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC.

A nearby lightning-strike and monsoon-like rain one hour into the rally led the National Park Service to cut short the event – but not before 3 people spoke, including MTA Co-Director Greg Coleridge.
Read Greg’s speech HERE
It calls on activists to confront and dismantle the entrenched power of corporations and the super-rich. Drawing on decades of organizing experience, Greg argues that political and constitutional systems are not broken but deliberately rigged to favor wealth and corporate interests. It describes how corporations gained constitutional rights and political influence – undermining real democracy – and advocates for passing the “We the People Amendment” to end corporate constitutional rights and the dominance of private money in politics. The path forward must include affirming our own dignity and organizing authentically democratic organizations that includes or supports mutual aid, radical education, and direct action to achieve a grassroots-based, people-powered democracy movement. Real democracy has never existed in the U.S., and it’s up to everyday people to create it for the very first time.
We hope to have a video of the talk and other images of the rally soon. Check back for updates.
MTA was a proud partner of the events in DC and in several local communities.

The event’s press release mentions that the group “supports and demands the passage of” the We the People Amendment (H.J.Res 54) as one of “two key pieces of federal legislation introduced in the current Congress.”
The Money Out of Politics Movement has just begun. Plans are to work more closely with community groups to meet immediate economic needs and build local solidarity as they advocate for larger legal and systemic changes. We look forward to learning from and working together with this new coalition locally and nationally.

Our presence at events like the Money Out of Politics rally — and our ongoing work connecting with organizations to raise up the We the People Amendment — is only possible because of forward-looking supporters like you.
This moment mattered — but moments alone won’t change a system rigged for corporate power. That’s why Move to Amend works every day to end corporate constitutional rights and overturn Citizens United, once and for all.
Fundraising is especially challenging right now. People are stretched thin, responding to urgent crises and backing candidates. But resistance alone won’t get us where we need to go. We need structural change—and that takes sustained organizing.
Will you help us financially to keep building the movement for real democracy — whether a one-time contribution or to become a monthly sustainer?
Together, we can and will do more than resist — we can and will transform.
In solidarity,
Tara, Cole, Shelly, George, Daniel, Kelsey, Jennie, Keyan, Michael, Katie, Alfonso, Jessica, Jason & Greg
