In this month’s Affiliate Spotlight, we’re thrilled to celebrate the extraordinary volunteers whose dedication and passion were key to the success of our recent events. Their efforts were nothing short of inspiring, and we’re honored to recognize their contributions.

On August 15, 2024, a diverse and dedicated group of Move to Amend’s (MTA) co-directors, board members, and grassroots leaders gathered in the vibrant city of Chicago, Illinois. From the very start, it was clear that this would be a week of collaborative spirit and profound activism. 

As Congress continues its break through the Labor Day week, the opportunity continues to make your voice heard where it counts—right in your own district!

Recently, several Move to Amend board members and co-directors lobbied Congresspersons at the Democratic National Convention to co-sponsor H.J.R. 54, the We the People Amendment.

It wasn’t easy. We had to find out what hotels state delegations were staying in all over Chicago, then get past security to enter the hotels, then instantaneously match their professional photographs to their current appearance (which sometimes was very different!) and, finally, while dodging their aide make a quick pitch directly to the Congressperson as they were heading to breakfast or a meeting, talking with others or having their pictures taken.

Wow, what a powerful start to our week at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago! As we close out Day 1, we want to share the exciting highlights and invite you to join us for the remaining days of action and advocacy.

Our presence was unmistakable today. Move to Amend members turned heads and sparked conversations with dramatic visual statements by wearing robes adorned with corporate logos, symbolizing the ultra-corporate-friendly Supreme Court. Furthermore, one of our co-directors also portrayed a character from The Handmaid’s Tale, highlighting the ongoing attacks on women’s rights. 

We are pleased to share a summary of the survey that 506 of you recently completed.

The complete results will be reviewed and incorporated into our Board and Co-Directors retreat discussions beginning today in Chicago.

The uprising of organized labor over the past year has yielded several impressive victories that have improved the lives of workers. Hollywood writers and actors, UPS workers and United Auto Workers at the Big 3 automakers all won significant concessions. Organized workers continue to be active with 182 labor actions having taken place in 242 locations so far in 2024.

At Move to Amend, we are dedicated to ensuring that corporations and other artificial entities do not hold Constitutional rights, and that campaign spending can be regulated to limit the influence of money in politics. Our Pledge to Amend campaign seeks commitments from candidates for public office to support these crucial goals.
