Four New Co-Sponsors Join Our Fight for the We the People Amendment!

We are thrilled to kick off this September with the incredible news that will energize our movement and bring us one step closer to achieving our goal of amending the Constitution to end corporate personhood and money as speech.

In August, we welcomed four new champions of democracy who have pledged their support for the We the People Amendment H.J.R. 54:

  1. Rep. Anna G. Eshoo [D-CA-16] - Co-Sponsored on 08/08/2023
  2. Rep. Ami Bera [D-CA-6] - Co-Sponsored on 08/22/2023
  3. Rep. Daniel S. Goldman [D-NY-10] - Co-Sponsored on 08/29/2023
  4. Rep. Eric Swalwell [D-CA-14] - Co-Sponsored on 08/29/2023

This remarkable progress brings us one step closer to our goal of amending the Constitution to protect the rights of the people over the influence of corporate interests. Our momentum is building, and together, we are reshaping the future of our nation.

We are thrilled to announce that some of our passionate and dedicated staff members and supporters will be marching in the monumental March to End Fossil Fuels on September 17, 2023, in the heart of New York City. This momentous event is not just about raising awareness of the urgent need to transition to renewable energy sources; it's about recognizing the undeniable connection between fossil fuels and corporate rule.

At Move to Amend, we firmly believe that we cannot achieve environmental justice without tackling the root cause of corporate influence in our political system. The continued dominance of fossil fuel giants over our energy policies and regulations exemplifies the extent of corporate control that plagues our democracy.

We march in solidarity with the broader movement, highlighting the pivotal role of the "We the People" amendment in combating corporate personhood and restoring power to the people. Only by enacting this crucial amendment can we break free from the shackles of corporate rule and pave the way for a sustainable, equitable future.

Join us, if you can, in this historic demonstration, as we unite our voices to end the grip of fossil fuels and reclaim our democracy for the greater good of humanity and the planet. Together, we can build a world where the will of the people prevails over corporate interests, fostering an era of true climate justice and genuine democracy.

Labor is on the Move. Help workers Move – to Amend – this Labor Day!

It’s been a “summer of strikes.” Workers across the country are on the offense, demanding better working conditions, benefits and pay – and opposing artificial intelligence.

We've said many times, 'We would be nothing without our affiliates, advocates, and supporters.' They do a lot of the heavy lifting, which is why we've been recognizing all they do for the movement each month.

Each month we will use this space to spotlight different Affiliates. This month we want to spotlight the Move to Amend Miami County (Ohio), as they embark on a whirlwind of activism that's sure to inspire.

On August 2nd, the affiliate gathered for their monthly meeting, laying the groundwork for a month of passionate advocacy. But it was August 9th that truly set the wheels in motion. Five fearless champions—Paula Hemmerick, Dede Wissman, Heather Sturgill, Sarah Wittman, and Deb Hogshead—descended upon Congressman Mike Carey's Columbus office. Armed with knowledge, information, and heartfelt personal statements, they fervently requested Rep. Carey to cosponsor HJR 54, a crucial step toward ending corporate dominance in politics.

Their mission didn't stop there. The team paid a visit to the office of State Representative Michael Skindell, delivering a note expressing gratitude on behalf of their affiliate and the Greater Dayton affiliate. Rep. Skindell has been leading the charge to abolish corporate personhood and the notion that money is equivalent to free speech. Miami County's message of appreciation echoed loudly.

Next on their journey was a visit to State Senator Kent Smith's office. Much to their delight, they had the chance to engage in a meaningful conversation with Senator Smith. They presented a note acknowledging his tireless efforts in introducing resolutions that challenge corporate constitutional rights and the corrosive influence of money in politics.

But the work didn't stop there. On August 24th, one of Miami County's dedicated affiliate members attended a luncheon where Rep. Mike Carey was the featured speaker. The details of this encounter are still unfolding, promising an intriguing story to be shared at their next affiliate meeting on September 6th.

In their relentless pursuit of progress, the affiliate diligently followed up with Rep. Carey's staff. While it may take some time, their efforts have made an indelible mark, as information was shared with Rep. Carey's D.C. team. And that's not all—Miami County has set their sights on an appointment with Rep. Warren Davidson, aiming for a pivotal meeting when he returns to the district in late October or early November.

Move to Amend Miami County, Ohio, is proving that grassroots activism can bring about real change. Their dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment to democracy are beacons of hope in the ongoing struggle against corporate influence in our political system. We eagerly await their next triumphs as they continue to lead the charge for a fair and just future for all.

Don't forget to submit your monthly affiliate reports.

These reports are a crucial tool for spotlighting the incredible efforts of our affiliates across the country and provide a platform for sharing best practices, success stories, and challenges faced in the fight for a constitutional amendment to end corporate personhood and money as speech in our political system.
