The overturning of Roe v. Wade continues sending shockwaves.

The anniversary of the overturning of Roe v. Wade serves as a stark reminder that rights once considered fundamental can be stripped away. This devastating decision not only impacts reproductive freedom but also highlights the growing influence of corporate power over our legal system—a system increasingly designed to serve the interests of the few at the expense of the many.

This month, we also mark the 15th anniversary of the Citizens United decision, a ruling that granted corporations unprecedented influence in our democracy by affirming that money equals speech and corporations are people. Together, these events expose the fragility of our rights and the urgent need to address corporate overreach.

As Rep. Pramila Jayapal, the lead sponsor of the We the People Amendment, reminded us in her recent video message, "The fight to pass this amendment is about restoring the voice of real people in our legal and political systems. It’s about ensuring that the rights enshrined in our Constitution belong to individuals—not corporations."

Today, as millions face an uncertain future regarding their reproductive choices, corporations continue to wield outsized power, using constitutional corporate "rights" like free speech and due process to prioritize profits over people. The Citizens United ruling amplified this imbalance, enabling corporations to shape legislation, dominate elections, and erode the very foundations of our democracy.

This is why the fight for the We the People Amendment is more urgent than ever.

What is the We the People Amendment?
This transformative amendment aims to:

  • End corporate constitutional rights.
  • Overturn Citizens United and related cases.
  • Reassert that constitutional rights are meant for real people—individuals and communities—not corporations.

We are working to reintroduce the We the People Amendment in the new 119th Congress to ensure that constitutional rights are only for people, not corporations. But it will take all of us standing together to make this vision a reality.
