Recap of Move to Amend in Washington D.C.

Over the course of a powerful and packed week in Washington, DC, the Move to Amend national team and supporters met with members of Congress and their staff to build crucial support for the We the People Amendment (H.J.R 54)a constitutional amendment to end corporate constitutional rights and eliminate big money from our political system.

Despite rain, cold weather, and packed schedules, we stayed focused and energized. We brought the voices of real people straight to Capitol Hill, visiting over 100 congressional offices, including current co-sponsors, to urge them to amplify the We the People Amendment in their outreach. We held 16 in-depth meetings (and many more scheduled are in the works) with lawmakers and legislative aides from across the country. In every conversation, we made it clear: corporate rule is deepening, and real democracy demands bold, structural change.

🕙 Meetings held with:

  • Rep. Jayapal (WA-07) - Lead sponsor!
  • Rep. Dexter (OR-03) - waiting to hear
  • Rep. Hoyle (OR-04) - waiting to hear

In an unexpected highlight, a chance hallway encounter with Rep. Al Green (TX-09) led to his immediate co-sponsorship of the amendment—proof that every voice, every meeting, every moment matters.

🎯 Now it’s your turn.
We need you to follow up with these offices and urge them to support or co-sponsor the We the People Amendment (H.J.Res.54):

📞 Make a quick call or send an email to their offices and say:

“I’m a constituent and I support the We the People Amendment (HJ Res. 54) to end corporate constitutional rights and get big money out of politics. I urge [Rep/Senator Name] to co-sponsor this critical legislation.”

Let’s keep the momentum going. Together, we can build a democracy that truly puts people over profits.

Additionally, Move to Amend had the opportunity to meet with the Next Systems Studies fellows at George Mason University to share our work and build deeper connections with emerging leaders committed to transformative change. We introduced the #WethePeopleAmendment and discussed our grassroots organizing efforts to challenge corporate rule and build real democracy from the ground up.

It was an engaging conversation with the scholars who are exploring bold alternatives to our current political and economic systems. We were inspired by their curiosity, insight, and commitment to systemic change, and we left feeling hopeful about the growing network of thinkers and organizers ready to push for a just, democratic future.

Engagements like this are a vital part of our movement-building strategy—connecting across generations and sectors to strengthen the call for a government truly of, by, and for the people.

Which is also why some of us came in early to DC to stand together with the Hands Off protest and the Defend the Students, Let Gaza Live March -united in our struggles. These moments reinforce our belief that change is possible. By continuing to build alliances with other movements and advocating for policies like the We the People Amendment, we will challenge corporate power at every level.

P.S We Can’t Do This Without You!

Together, we are on the verge of something historic.

But our ability to continue this fight depends on your continued involvement and support.

Therefore, if you’re able to, please support us financially, your contribution will ensure we can continue to mobilize and keep pushing for the kind of change we all deserve. Thank you!
