Success in Numbers: Cosponsors for HJR 54

2024 has been a major challenge for Move to Amend, with all the attention, energy, and resources directed toward the November election. However, your continued interest, direct involvement, and financial support have allowed us to stay focused on our long-term goal of ending the corrupting, unjust, and environmentally catastrophic effects of undue corporate power. We’re determined to amend the Constitution to establish that only human beings—not corporations—are constitutional “persons,” and that money raised and spent in elections is not free speech and can be regulated.

Thanks to your continued efforts, we’ve made incredible progress on H.J.R 54, the We the People Amendment. As of today, we’ve reached 89 cosponsors + our lead sponsor, Rep. Pramila Jayapal!

With only a few more cosponsors left to reach our target of 100 by the end of this session, we’re so close to transforming the impossible into the inevitable.

There's still time left to reach our goal as the 118th Congressional session doesn’t end until January 3, 2025, and historically, we’ve seen significant gains in cosponsors during the final months. Together, we’re pushing for a legislative shift that will bring real change.

If you haven’t yet, now is the time to reach out to your representatives! Use our One Click Politics tool to make your voice heard, and let’s keep the momentum going. Click here to take action today.

To empower you further, we encourage you to use our One Click Politics tool, which allows you to easily call your representative’s office. With just a few simple questions—like your name, zip code, and phone number—you can make your voice heard in support of the We the People Amendment.

Here are other ways you can contribute to the success of H.J.R. 54

Help us reach 600,000 signatures on our petition, and we need your help to make this a reality! You can collect signatures at community events, farmers' markets, or even online. Start by getting your own recruiter ID and share it with your network to help spread the word!

What's Next: A Strong Start to 2025

We’re thrilled to have Rep. Pramila Jayapal, who has been a steadfast supporter, continuing to serve as our lead sponsor in the next Congress. She is committed to helping us push the We the People Amendment forward and will be a prime example of why we need HJR 54—because we must get big private interests and money out of politics.

Looking at the billions of dollars spent in the 2024 elections, it’s clear that corporate money is drowning out the voices of ordinary people. For instance, we’ve seen $8.9 billion spent on the 2024 election cycle, a staggering amount that only furthers the influence of corporate power in our political system. This highlights just how urgent it is to pass the We the People Amendment and shift the balance of power back to the people. You can read more about this in our latest blog post, Money in Elections: How Corporate Influence Undermines Our Democracy.
