We the People Wednesdays - September 30, 2026

WE THE PEOPLE WEDNESDAY 9/30/2026:

82 House cosponsors — Welcome Rep. Val Hoyle!

The Senate push is underway — MTA volunteer Lawrence Abbott is in Washington, DC this week.

Take action: Call your senators and ask them to meet with Move to Amend.

Election season = organizing season — Congress is heading home, so let's meet them there.

Two More Members of Congress Join the We the People Amendment!

We have some good news from Capitol Hill — and an important opportunity to keep the momentum going.

Rep. Val Hoyle (OR-4) has become the newest cosponsor of H.J.Res. 54, bringing the We the People Amendment to 82 House cosponsors!

And this week, we're taking that momentum across the Capitol to the U.S. Senate.

Rep. Val Hoyle of Oregon's 4th Congressional District has signed onto We the People Amendment (H.J.Res. 54), bringing us to 82 cosponsors in the House!

Every new cosponsor represents another member of Congress standing behind the principle at the heart of this movement: constitutional rights belong to human beings, not corporations, and money is not speech.

Thank you to everyone who continues calling, writing, meeting with, and showing up in front of your representatives.

That pressure matters. Keep it up!

NOW, WE'RE TAKING THE FIGHT TO THE SENATE

One of Move to Amend's biggest legislative goals for 2026 is securing the introduction of the We the People Amendment in the U.S. Senate.

And this week, MTA volunteer Lawrence Abbott is in Washington, DC, helping us advance that goal.

The Senate is still in session, so Lawrence is there while senators and their staff are in Washington.

While Lawrence is knocking on doors in DC, we need constituents knocking on those same doors from home.

TAKE ACTION & CONTACT CONGRESS

We're reaching out to several Senate offices about introducing a Senate companion to H.J.Res. 54, the We the People Amendment — and constituent calls can reinforce that outreach.

Two offices we're especially interested in hearing from are Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey of Massachusetts.

Both senators have records of supporting efforts to address the influence of big money in politics and overturn Citizens United. With Move to Amend working to identify a Senate champion for the We the People Amendment, Massachusetts constituents have an especially important opportunity to speak up.

If you live in Massachusetts, call both Senator Warren and Senator Markey and ask them to meet with Move to Amend about bringing the We the People Amendment to the Senate.

Not in Massachusetts? We still need you. Call your own senators and put the We the People Amendment on their radar.

Here's your ask:

"I'm a constituent, and I'm asking Senator ______ to meet with Move to Amend about introducing a Senate companion to H.J.Res. 54, the We the People Amendment."

Ask for the staff member who handles constitutional or democracy issues.

Then let us know what you hear back!

While Lawrence is opening doors in Washington, constituent calls can help us keep those doors open.

NEXT WEEK, THE SENATE COMES HOME

Beginning October 5, the Senate is scheduled to enter a State Work Period through November 6.

That means the opportunity shifts from Washington back to our communities.

With the election right around the corner, members of Congress and candidates will be appearing at town halls, campaign events, debates, community gatherings, and other public events.

Find them. Show up. Ask questions.

Request a meeting at their district or state office. Attend a town hall. Bird-dog your elected officials and candidates.

Ask your representative to cosponsor H.J.Res. 54.

Ask your senators to help introduce the We the People Amendment in the Senate.

And ask candidates whether they'll publicly commit to supporting the amendment if elected.

Candidates are asking for our votes.

Let's ask for their commitment to ending corporate rule in return.

This week, Lawrence is carrying the We the People Amendment into Senate offices in Washington.

Next week, those senators start coming home.

Let's be there when they do.

Move to Amend is 100% grassroots funded. Every meeting we hold, every organizer we train, every congressional office we visit, and every new supporter we reach is made possible by people like you. If you're able, please make a contribution to help us continue building the movement to pass the We the People Amendment.
