TOLEDO, OH: Democracy Day on March 26

Nine years ago the citizens of Toledo voted to have an annual event addressing City Council on matters of their concern such that citizens are represented in the decision-making process.

This year’s event is especially revealing.  We have now seen the flood of corporate money and individual “purchasing” of elections is deeply threatening our democracy like never before.   The Citizens United Supreme Court decision to allow unlimited campaign financing by Corporations has, by some standards, allowed a dictatorship to overreach our Constitution.

This year’s Democracy Day, Oppose and Propose, will highlight two major concerns.  One as a public outcry of our opposition to Oligarchy, and two, to rise up propose protection of the Common Good, and offer support to programs and values that we hold true.  As we do each year, anyone is welcome to express their concerns of a topic of their choice.

If you are unable to attend in person you could send a written or recorded message and we will submit this on record to council.

We have tables available at no cost for your organization to present materials.  Please reply to this email or call 419-704-1863 to reserve your table.

This year’s Democracy Day is scheduled for Wednesday March 26th at 5 pm at One Government Center, in the Council Chambers.

Feel free to spread the word to your friends and organizations. The pdf attached for your use and distribution.

Wishing you well.
