Resisting Cop City POSTPONED

We're sorry to inform you that the livestream event, "Resisting Cop City & Corporate Power," scheduled for today, Thursday, June 29, at 5 pm PT, 8 pm ET, has been postponed.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused and would like to explain the circumstances behind this decision.

During this week of action, unforeseen events unfolded that have compelled us to postpone tonight's live stream. We received a message from our esteemed guest speaker, Kamau Franklin, who expressed his sincere apologies and informed us that an unexpected situation arose.

Kamau shared that some individuals were unfortunately arrested during the current week of action, and emergency events were taking place that required his attention. In light of these developments, it became necessary to reschedule the livestream. We understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise, and we fully support Kamau's decision to prioritize the current situation and the well-being of those affected.

We will continue to update this import resistance to corporate rule and will reschedule with Kamau Franklin as soon as possible.

We kindly request that you stay on the lookout for further announcements regarding the rescheduled event so that you can hear from one of the #StopCopCity on-the-ground leaders on what’s happening now and how you can support this important movement for justice, a livable world, and self-determination/democracy.

Kamau Franklin

Kamau Franklin is the founder of Community Movement Builders, Inc. Kamau has been a dedicated community organizer for over thirty years, beginning in New York City and now based in Atlanta. For 18 of those years, Kamau was a leading member of a national grassroots organization dedicated to the ideas of self-determination and the teachings of Malcolm X. Kamau has coordinated and led community cop-watch programs, liberation/freedom schools for youth, electoral and policy campaigns, large-scale community gardens, organizing collectives and alternatives to incarceration programs. Kamau was an attorney for ten years in New York with his own practice in criminal, civil rights and transactional law. He also served as the south regional director of the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC).

The massive grassroots opposition to the proposed construction of the Atlanta Police Foundation (APF) Public Safety Training Center, infamously known as Cop City, in Atlanta is unquestionably about preventing the dramatic increase of the militarization of police and subsequent tactical suppression of civil dissent, as well as the destruction of the largest urban forest in the United States.

But it’s also about corporate power.

Major national corporations support the building of Cop City. Atlanta City Council recently approved $30 million for its construction of the $90 million facility – the balance coming from the corporate-funded Atlanta Police Foundation.

Despite the mass public opposition locally, nationally, even internationally – including arrests and the labeling of opponents as “domestic terrorists” – resistance continues, both in the streets and the ballot box
