Congressional Update

The movement to end corporate rule and build a democracy genuinely accountable to people—not corporate interests—continues to gain momentum in Congress.

Since our last newsletter, three new members of Congress have signed on as cosponsors of the We the People Amendment (H.J.Res. 54):

• Rep. Doris Matsui (CA-07)
• Rep. Chellie Pingree (ME-01)
• Rep. Greg Landsman (OH-01)

Their support brings us one step closer to the constitutional changes needed to end corporate constitutional rights and the corrupting influence of big money in politics.

This growing momentum is also reflected beyond Congress. Earlier this year, 84 candidates for public office signed Move to Amend's Pledge to Amend, publicly committing to support the We the People Amendment and place people above corporate power. Together, these Courage Candidates are helping build the political will needed to advance real democratic change.

But we know that progress doesn't happen because politicians suddenly decide to act. Progress happens when people organize, educate, and apply pressure.

That's why we're inviting supporters to join us for our upcoming 7 Days of Action in Washington, D.C., June 28–July 4. Throughout the week, advocates from across the country will meet with congressional offices, participate in public events, and call attention to the urgent need for the We the People Amendment as our nation marks the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

Can't make it to Washington? You can still play a critical role:

Join our June 10 National Planning Call to help organize coordinated local actions during the week of June 29–July 4 alongside our 7 Days of Action in Washington, D.C. Participants will learn how to organize congressional district office visits, public educational events, visible demonstrations, media outreach, and candidate engagement efforts that amplify the call to end corporate rule and pass the We the People Amendment.

Congressional offices pay attention when constituents show up in multiple ways—from phone calls and meetings to local media coverage and public actions. As we mark the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, let's use this historic moment to remind elected officials that self-government remains unfinished work.

📍 Ask for a meeting—virtual or in-person—in your district
🗣️ Get them on record: Where do they stand on corporate rule?

At a time when major decisions are being shaped by legal interpretations that prioritize abstract rights over lived realities, it’s more important than ever that members of Congress hear directly from the people they represent.

For 250 years, Americans have struggled to make real the promise that governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed. Today, concentrated corporate power and unlimited political spending continue to stand in the way of that promise.

Together, we can help finish the work.

Join us in Washington, organize locally, and help turn up the heat until every member of Congress chooses people over corporate power.
