At Move to Amend, we believe that real change comes from the ground up—and this month, we’re shining the spotlight on the incredible work being done by our Affiliate groups. From local petition drives to grassroots education, these groups are powering the movement toward the We the People Amendment (H.J.Res. 54).
We want to highlight the importance of our Affiliate Report submissions—these forms are not just a tool for tracking activities, but a way to showcase the relentless efforts of our base. Whether we're applying for grants or simply demonstrating the impact of our work, these reports are a vital part of making our collective efforts visible. They help us not only prove the impact we’re having but also inspire others to take action in their communities.
Here’s a look at the recent activities reported by our Affiliates:
🌟 New Leadership in San Antonio
We’re excited to welcome Charles Harvard, a passionate college student and emerging activist, as the newest leader of our San Antonio affiliate. Charles is committed to re-launching the affiliate group in the area and is actively engaging with local communities to build support for the We the People Amendment. His leadership, energy, and initiative are a testament to the power of youth driving social change. Charles is working hard to create a force to be reckoned with the movement in the Lonestar State by diligently engaging city council members with the goal of introducing local resolutions in support of the We the People Amendment. His efforts will lay the foundation for future Democracy Days in the Hill Country area, offering platforms for civic engagement and public education.
Tuscaloosa Move to Amend - Alabama
In Tuscaloosa, the local group has been busy organizing and pushing for congressional co-sponsorships. They've been particularly focused on Representatives Terri Sewell and Shomari Figures, with efforts to build momentum in Alabama for the We the People Amendment. This group has also been reaching out to the University Democrats for endorsement and hosting regular meetings to discuss strategy. Despite some challenges with reporting, their work shows a dedication to tackling the systemic issues corporate influence has on democracy.
Move to Amend Miami County, Ohio
The team in Miami County, Ohio, has been making strides in both outreach and direct action. This month, they presented at a meeting for the Darke County Democratic & Independent Women’s Group, which voted to endorse the movement. They’re also organizing efforts for a letter to the editor on their Pledge-to-Amend campaign and have already gathered 46 petition signatures. Their efforts are further underscored by their participation in local rallies and a focus on growing their volunteer base. From cash donations to in-kind support, this Affiliate continues to build momentum with minimal financial resources.
⚠️ The Threat of Corporate-Controlled Cities: The Starbase Dilemma
Meanwhile, in Cameron County, Texas, the recent incorporation of Starbase—a new city established around Elon Musk's SpaceX headquarters—raises significant concerns. With a population of about 500 residents, the vast majority of whom are SpaceX employees, Starbase exemplifies the growing trend of corporate-controlled municipalities. This development sets a dangerous legal precedent, potentially allowing corporations to establish their own cities, undermining democratic governance and community autonomy. As corporate influence continues to grow, it’s more important than ever for us to fight for systemic change through grassroots action like the work Charles, Alfonso, and all our Affiliates are doing. Their efforts are key to ensuring that democracy remains in the hands of the people, not corporations.
What These Efforts Mean for the Movement
Each action taken by our Affiliates—whether it’s petitioning at rallies, writing letters to the editor, or gathering endorsements from local organizations—is a step closer to passing the We the People Amendment. These efforts illustrate the hard work happening in communities nationwide, and they’re made possible by people like you who continue to dedicate their time, energy, and passion for justice.
These grassroots actions are vital to showing the political will necessary to pass the We the People Amendment. By documenting and sharing these reports, we can continue to fuel our movement and keep pushing for a future where the people—not corporations—have the power.
We’re so grateful for the hard work of these affiliates and all of our supporters who are stepping up, week after week, to fight for real democracy. If you haven’t yet, we encourage you to fill out the Affiliate Report form and share your activities with us—your efforts matter, and your stories can inspire even more people to join the cause.
Thank you for all that you do!
