As we've mentioned in before, Move to Amend has really been hit hard by the economic downturn. Being a 501(c)4, we were not eligible for any relief from the CARES Act.
Unlike the majority of 501(c)4 nonprofits, however, we are almost entirely grassroots funded -- that means we rely on small donations from regular people. And because regular people fuel this movement, our financial support has taken a hit as well, because so many of us have had to tighten up our giving. As a result our staff laid itself off in April, and has been doing this work on a 100% volunteer basis.
If you appreciate the work that we do -- which we are MORE committed to than ever before -- we want you to consider stepping into the place of a Move to Amend supporter who has recently had to pause their support due to this economic downturn.
We WILL do this work regardless. We have never been in it for the money. But all of us are here because this is what we want to be doing with our time. We know this is the wrong moment to turn away from this work -- this is a moment we have been predicting since our inception -- and the movement for true democracy and against corporate rule has never been more critical to lean into.
In solidarity,
