The confirmation hearings for Supreme Court Judge Amy Coney Barrett started last week, and its result will have long-lasting consequences.
For a long, long time, Republicans have been trying to privatize everything, from Social Security to our Nation's public school system--and they know that a hard-right conservative majority on the Court could make that happen. That's why they are so eager to rush these confirmation hearings!
Are you concerned about how climate change is driving wildfires, massive flooding storms, and hurricanes? A conservative Supreme Court could rule that laws or policies to reduce carbon emissions are an unlawful violation of refiners and other fossil fuel companies' rights to do business.
Expect, with a truly conservative court, to lose your right to be protected from being ripped off by your bank, insurance company, Internet service provider, and even your utilities (if they are for-profit corporations).
They could roll back the right of LGBTQ people to get married, and the right of labor unions to even exist.
If Amy Coney Barrett gets confirmed, the Supreme Court will fall into hard-core conservative hands, and that could do massive damage to the entire spectrum of life in America.
Right now: you can pick up the phone and ask your Senators to oppose the FIFTH justice on the Supreme Court nominated by a president who lost the popular vote by 3 Million, and confirmed by GOP senators representing 11 Million fewer Americans than their Democratic colleagues.
Plus, Judge Barrett’s extreme record on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, along with her ideologically driven writings and speeches, demonstrate that she is incapable of rendering equal justice under law and she should not be confirmed to the highest court in the land.
And while you have them on the phone, ask them to support HJR-48, the We The People Amendment, which will abolish Dark Money altogether.
