Affiliate Spotlight - March 2025

At Move to Amend, our strength is in our people—the dedicated grassroots organizers and advocates who bring our movement to life in their communities. This month, we want to celebrate the work of our affiliates and advocates who have been tirelessly pushing forward the We the People Amendment, despite the challenges of winter and the political roadblocks that corporate interests throw in our way. Their persistence, passion, and commitment are what make this movement unstoppable.

Miami County, Ohio: A Winter of Resistance

Winter may be a slow season for some, but the dedicated organizers in Miami County, Ohio, have made sure the We the People Amendment remains in the conversation. They recently took part in Move to Amend’s Movement Education Program, with a "Pause & Review" session facilitated by none other than Greg Coleridge himself. This reflection not only strengthened their understanding of corporate rule but also reinvigorated their resolve to continue fighting against it.

On February 18, Deb Hogshead took a bold stand at the Troy City Council meeting, using a recent example of corruption in real time. Elon Musk, a billionaire who already wields immense power, paid a staggering $288 million to get a seat at the table with the White House. Meanwhile, everyday people struggle to get their representatives to listen. This stark contrast underscores why we must pass the We the People Amendment—to ensure that wealth does not buy influence and that the government serves people, not corporations.

Their activism didn’t stop there. On February 5, three Miami County members joined a protest in Columbus, amplifying the call for systemic change, while another member took to the streets of Greenville on President’s Day. Their efforts, big and small, are what keep this movement alive, reminding us all that every action contributes to the larger fight.

North Carolina: The Relentless Pursuit of Accountability

Meanwhile, in North Carolina, Robert Scull and his team have been leading the charge to secure Rep. Deborah Ross’s support for HJR 54. Robert understands that true change requires building political pressure, which is why he’s not just organizing meetings—he’s taking a multi-pronged approach. He has spearheaded efforts to engage with a broad spectrum of voters, including Republicans and Independents, during early voting, ensuring that people across the political spectrum recognize the devastating effects of corporate rule.

He’s also leading a team of literature distributors, ensuring that critical information about the We the People Amendment gets into the hands of voters. Robert’s strategy is clear: build a reputation as a force that the party cannot ignore. By demonstrating how campaign finance reform is essential for restoring public trust in government, he’s making it increasingly difficult for Rep. Ross to remain on the sidelines.

Brownsville, Texas: Fighting Corporate Invasion at the Frontlines

Further south, the Brownsville chapter of the Sunrise Movement is tackling corporate greed head-on in a fight that directly ties into the We the People Amendment’s core mission. This chapter has been a frontline defender against the unchecked expansion of SpaceX, which has bulldozed sacred and environmentally sensitive land in the name of profit. But that’s not all—they’ve also been resisting ICE’s presence in the region and pushing back against the expansion of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facilities, which threaten the well-being of local communities and ecosystems.

These activists understand that corporate power doesn’t stop at elections; it infiltrates our communities, our environments, and our ability to fight for a just future. Their work is a testament to the power of grassroots action and a reminder that when we fight together, we can challenge even the most powerful corporate interests.

The Power of Collective Action

What connects all these efforts—from Ohio to North Carolina to Texas—is the unwavering belief that we, the people, are stronger together. Each protest, each city council statement, each canvassing effort brings us one step closer to dismantling corporate rule and reclaiming our democracy.

And yet, we can’t do it alone. If you’re part of an affiliate group, we need your reports! Sharing your victories, challenges, and ongoing work not only ensures that credit is given where it’s due but also strengthens our movement by inspiring others. We are not just a collection of individual efforts—we are a mighty force pushing forward together.

Let’s keep the momentum going. Keep organizing, keep fighting, and most importantly, keep believing in the power of the people to transform the impossible into the inevitable.
