Two hundred and fifty years ago, Americans gathered in town squares, churches, taverns, and public spaces to debate a revolutionary idea: that people have the right to govern themselves.
Today, we are still having that conversation.
Corporations spend billions influencing elections. Billionaires dominate public policy. Corporate lobbyists write legislation. Private interests shape everything from healthcare and housing to war, climate policy, media, and the economy.
As we approach the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, Move to Amend is inviting supporters across the country to help launch a modern Declaration of Independence from Corporate Rule
Whether you join us in Washington, D.C. or take action in your own community, this July 4th is an opportunity to educate, organize, and grow the movement for the We the People Amendment (H.J.Res. 54).
Join Us in Washington, D.C.
The Move to Amend National Team will be in Washington, D.C. as part of Seven Days in D.C., joining activists, veterans, artists, organizers, comedians, influencers, independent media voices, and democracy advocates from across the country.
Together, we will spend several days lobbying Congress, educating the public, building relationships with movement partners, and advancing the We the People Amendment. This is where you come in. We want to flood congress with phone calls demanding your representative's co-sponsor H.J.Res. 54
Stay tuned. We will provide a one click link during the days of action.
On July 4, we will participate in the We the People March, carrying a giant people's scroll through the nation's capital and declaring that democracy belongs to people—not corporations, billionaires, or special interests.
If you can make it to Washington, we hope you'll join us.
If not, we encourage you to participate in a march, parade, festival, rally, or public gathering in your own community and bring the message of democratic self-government to your neighbors.
Every July 4 Activity Should Include:
✅ Petition Signatures
✅ Volunteer Sign-Ups
✅ Public Education
✅ Photos & Social Media
✅ An Invitation to Join Move to Amend
MOST IMPORTANT: COLLECT PETITION SIGNATURES
Every event is an opportunity to grow the movement.
Bring petition forms wherever you go. Whether you are tabling at a festival, marching in a parade, hosting a picnic, or attending a rally, make petition signatures a central goal.
Every signature helps build support for the We the People Amendment—the constitutional amendment to end corporate constitutional rights and overturn the doctrine that money equals speech.

I. DECLARE INDEPENDENCE FROM CORPORATE RULE — PEOPLE-POWERED MURAL PROJECT
One of the centerpiece activities of our Declaration of Independence from Corporate Rule campaign is the creation of community murals that visualize both the problem and the solution.
The mural design features an American flag constructed from corporate logos representing the growing influence of corporations over our democracy, economy, healthcare system, military contracting, technology, media, and public life.
Across the center runs a banner declaring:
"Declaration of Independence from Corporate Rule"
Community members are invited to help build the mural one tile at a time.
DECLARE INDEPENDENCE FROM CORPORATE RULE-Mural Project
The finished mural becomes a powerful public statement that democracy should be governed by people—not corporations.
Most importantly, use the mural as a petition-signing station. Every participant should be invited to sign the We the People Amendment petition and join the movement.
II. 📜 DECLARATION SCROLL BUILD
Create a local Declaration of Independence from Corporate Rule scroll.
DECLARATION SCROLL BUILD (EVENT VERSION)
Invite participants to sign their names and answer questions such as:
• What corporate power are you declaring independence from?
• What kind of democracy do you want to build?
• What freedoms are impossible while wealth dominates politics?
Collect signatures and statements throughout your event and display the completed scroll publicly as a declaration from your community.
Add a "Grievances Against Corporate Rule" Box
Set up a large poster board, banner, or section of the scroll where participants can write their own grievances—just as the original Declaration of Independence listed grievances against the British Crown.
III. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR & OP-EDS
One of the most powerful things supporters can do this summer is publish letters and opinion pieces in local newspapers.
Every published letter helps bring these ideas into communities that may never encounter them otherwise. RSVP
The Unfinished Revolution
The Declaration of Independence was never meant to be a museum piece.
It was a declaration that people have the right to govern themselves.
For 250 years, generations of Americans have fought to expand democracy and challenge concentrated power. Our generation faces that same responsibility.
This July 4th, help educate your community, collect petition signatures, create public art, publish letters, build local networks, and declare independence from corporate rule.
Together, we can build something America has never fully achieved before:
A democracy in which people—not corporations, billionaires, or special interests—govern.
In solidarity,
Move to Amend
Declare Independence from Corporate Rule
