I have transitioned out of the National Director position at Move to Amend and my long-serving colleagues have stepped forward as co-leaders. It has been an honor and privilege to have co-founded Move to Amend and worked with the organization since its inception in 2009. We have come a long way! There is still much to do – including, and beyond, passing the We the People Amendment. It is crucial that we continue to work in coalition to create an authentically inclusive democracy movement equivalent in scale to the forces that have caused and continue to fuel the enormous crises we face.
Move to Amend remains unique thanks to our combined vision of systemic change – beyond mere electoral reforms – commitment internally and externally to anti-oppression in all its forms, our deep roots in grassroots organizing and political education, and our commitment to being politically and economically independent.
I want to thank the Staff for their hard work in helping steward this transition, and honor them for taking on increased leadership as I have been stepping back. They are wise, experienced, creative, and capable beyond measure.
I also want to thank the National Board for steadfastly helping to steer this organization and for offering vision and guidance as board members to me and the rest of the staff.
To the question of “who will take over”, the answer is we have been intentionally collectivizing the national structure and leadership of the organization over the past several years. For more than a year, I have progressively stepped back allowing staff to redistribute leadership roles as we intentionally shifted into a new more horizontal organizational culture. Our National Staff team has stepped up to fill the role of Co-Directors and will continue to support the work of the growing Movement to Amend.
Our movement has always depended on the continued involvement of our dedicated supporters. My hope is that you carry on your important work with the support of this capable team of co-directors and each other -- below is a message from them about some upcoming ways to get involved and support Move to Amend.
In solidarity always,
As co-founder of Move to Amend, Kaitlin’s impact on this movement cannot be adequately captured in an email notice. In the coming weeks, to honor and celebrate what she has meant to Move to Amend, we will gather together online with Kaitlin to share stories, celebrate her 13 years leading this organization, and send her off into her future with appreciation. Keep an eye out for details coming soon.
As we move forward into the future, here are some of our exciting upcoming organizing and fundraising projects and events.
Help us plant the seeds for our Spring Fundraising Match Drive this year! Our goal is to raise $30,000 from our closest supporters (that's you!) by the end of May. In June, we'll use that fund to launch the main event -- a Spring Match Drive. Match drives are a great way for longtime donors to help organizations attract new donors! Contribute and share the link HERE.
Move to Amend, with several coalition partner organizations, is hosting a virtual event this June called “A Radical Gathering: Cultivating The World We All Deserve”. I hope you’ll join from wherever you are to learn, share, practice and build relationships.
Make sure you’re signed up to get our emails so you don’t miss these!
