"[Position unchanged since 2023] I am unaware that this issue has effected our local races to date but am willing to entertain and push for any idea or legislation that provides or expands people's right to exercise their vote. I will continue to listen and learn from information about Move to Amend. [In 2025, when speaking by telephone, Mr. Rozell added this comment, which is paraphrased:] Mr. Rozell believes one way to control money in political campaigns is to have challengers for office decide together how much will be spent, with the incumbent pledging to give up their slush fund so both candidates start at zero. How will you use your public office to end corporate constitutional rights and big money in politics?
"I am running for city council precisely because I believe that residents in Minneapolis Ward 1 need someone representing their interests. My focus will be on ensuring the residents have a greater voice at City Hall. Corporations already have outside influence within all levels of government. And while as a City Council Member there are limits to what I can do to counter that influence on a larger scale, I will focus on being a people-focused Council Member. As a Council Member, the people who will have the greatest influence over me are the residents of Ward 1. In practice, this will see me first consult residents and local labor unions on issues such as development or transport within Northeast Minneapolis. I will ensure that the City hears residents' voices on matters happening in their neighborhood. I will promote a culture in which City Government delivers results for residents as its foremost goal. As a council member, I recognize that my role limits what I can accomplish on campaign reform at the local level. But as a public official, I believe it is time we call on our national leaders to take action. We need a constitutional amendment that states, simply and unmistakably, “Money Does Not Equal Speech” Only then can we restore common sense campaign finance laws that serve the people rather than wealthy special interests. This principle is clear and straightforward, and every politician should be willing to stand behind it. Those who refuse will not earn my endorsement or my vote."

How will you use your public office to end corporate constitutional rights and big money in politics?
"I believe in the heart of this initiative. The intent to reduce the outsized influence of money in politics and to push back against corporate personhood is important and worth pursuing. However, I feel the legislation as written is overly broad and, frankly, lazy in its approach. Instead of crafting a careful solution that targets the problem of unlimited political spending, it sweeps too widely and opens the door to new abuses. By stripping constitutional protections from all incorporated entities, this measure gives government free rein over organizations that are not “big business” at all. Local newspapers, churches, nonprofits, universities, and even mom-and-pop shops often exist as incorporated entities. Under this framework, they could lose basic protections for free speech, religious practice, academic freedom, property rights, and even due process. While the amendment carves out a narrow protection for the press, it leaves many other parts of civil society vulnerable. In practice, this risks stamping down on the small players while leaving the largest corporate interests to exploit loopholes and find workarounds. Wealth has always found ways to shape politics through lobbying, media ownership, or dark money channels and I am not convinced this amendment as written would stop that. What it could do, however, is weaken the very institutions that provide balance in our republic, such as advocacy groups, community organizations, and small businesses. If we want to restore faith in government and level the playing field, we need legislation that is both precise and enforceable, targeting unlimited political contributions and expenditures directly, while protecting the rights of the organizations and institutions that people rely on every day. The heart of this amendment is in the right place, but the execution misses the mark and could create more problems than it solves."

"Every election cycle, billionaires and special interest groups pour massive amounts of dark money into our political system. The disastrous Citizens United decision has enabled ultra-wealthy donors to drown out the voices of ordinary American voters. My DISCLOSE Act would require organizations spending money in elections to disclose donors who have given $10,000 or more during an election cycle. The American people deserve transparency. We must bring donors out of the shadows and prevent foreign money from anonymously influencing our elections and courts. "

"I believe democracy belongs to people not corporations. As an elected official, I will use my office to support the national movement to end corporate constitutional rights and overturn Citizens United. At the local level, I will introduce or support a City Council resolution calling on Congress to pass the We the People Amendment (HJR 54), which clearly states that only human beings, not corporations, have constitutional rights, and that money is not speech. In addition, I will work to strengthen Atlanta’s campaign finance and ethics laws to curb corporate and lobbyist influence. That includes tighter restrictions on donations from entities with city contracts, full real-time transparency of contributions and expenditures, and stronger penalties for violations. Most importantly, I’ll continue to model those values in my own campaign by prioritizing grassroots, community-based fundraising, as I have done in this campaign (99.7% of my donors are individuals). Ending corporate purchasing of campaigns isn’t just about reform, it’s about restoring faith in democracy and ensuring every voice in Atlanta carries equal weight."

How will you use your public office to end corporate constitutional rights and big money in politics?
"When I was a journalist, I was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for my work in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The community was divided over a proposed pulp mill, and despite the threats I received over my reporting, I followed the money all the way to some of the local politicians who were being influenced by big business. I bring this same energy and direction to my work on City Council. Duluth is in a housing crisis. I have seen elected officials and planners talk about “trickle down housing.” It doesn’t work. Developers don’t make as much money off of affordable housing. We have to build the housing that people need. And when developers come with proposals for housing for the rich, we must demand that they include affordable units. I am also very concerned about the corporate takeover that we are seeing at the federal level. The attacks by the current federal administration are disturbing in many ways, among them the fact that our money is being redirected to immoral ends at the expense of society’s most vulnerable members. We are experiencing a regression to taxation without representation as unelected powers and unaccountable politicians are abusing legislative processes. I have been actively involved with groups resisting this illegitimate takeover of governmental processes and programs. I will continue to join with people of good will who are committed to a democratic and just society. "

How will you use your public office to end corporate constitutional rights and big money in politics?
"Unsure of how I feel with how the amendment is currently written. As a candidate for city council, my role is to serve the residents of Troy and ensure that local government decisions reflect their needs, not those of outside corporate interests. While I agree that corporate money has an outsized influence on politics, I also believe in protecting the rights of individuals to contribute to campaigns and participate in the political process. At the local level, I support efforts to increase transparency in campaign finance, making it clear where funding comes from. Additionally, I believe that local government decisions should be made with input from the community, not dictated by corporate or special interest groups. I will encourage greater public participation in city council meetings and decision-making processes to ensure that our policies reflect the priorities of Troy’s residents. While city council does not have the authority to regulate campaign finance laws, I will advocate for policies that keep government accountable and responsive to the people rather than outside interests. I believe that a well-informed and engaged community is the best safeguard against undue corporate influence in our local government. "

"For too long, the government has been slow, wasteful, and opaque, leaving citizens frustrated while corporations and special interests thrive. Outdated programs continue draining resources with little oversight, while public trust in government erodes. When bureaucracy lacks transparency and accountability, tax dollars fail to meet the needs of the people. In addition to a constitutional amendment, we will modernize and streamline government by auditing outdated programs, eliminating inefficiencies, and demanding measurable performance metrics for all federal agencies. Agencies will be required to publish annual impact reports in plain language, with bipartisan oversight audits every four years. These reforms will rebuild trust by ensuring that the government is not only effective but responsive, efficient, and directly accountable to the public."

How will you use your public office to end corporate constitutional rights and big money in politics?
"Addressing corporate influence in culture, law, and politics, especially in educational policies, requires a comprehensive approach involving policies, legislation, and various strategies. Key measures include mandating transparency in corporate contributions, reforming campaign finance laws, establishing ethics rules to prevent undue influence, promoting community engagement, and creating independent oversight bodies. These actions aim to increase accountability, empower stakeholders, and mitigate corporate influence in decision-making processes, particularly for school board members and candidates."

How will you use your public office to end corporate constitutional rights and big money in politics?
"I will be committed to reforming our political and legal systems, I will use my public office to end corporate constitutional rights and reduce the influence of big money in politics. This will involve advocating for a constitutional amendment clarifying that corporations do not possess the same rights as individuals, supporting campaign finance reform to limit the impact of money in elections, and promoting transparency measures to expose corporate influence. Additionally, I will scrutinize corporate partnerships in areas like education to ensure they prioritize public interests over profit motives. By prioritizing these reforms, I aim to strengthen democratic integrity, empower citizen voices, and create a government that works for all, not just the wealthy and well-connected."

We will also work toward full public financing of elections to get the corrupting influence of private money out of politics and put the people back in. How will you use your public office to end corporate constitutional rights and big money in politics?
"The extremely flawed ruling in Citizens United has been a stain on our democracy. The way Forward (though long overdue) at this time is to secure The People's rights for themselves through a formal Amendment process. Elected officials are responsible to the individuals they represent, not Corporates or PAC. I would see along with this Amendment, if elected, a more fair and increased Public Campaign Financing, that doesn't mainly benefit the two major parties. Along with Ranked Choice Voting and Open Primaries, the influence of Corporates will be stifled until a time we can pass the Amendment and ratify it on a national level. The population has seen through corporate coercion and bribery in politics, as well as, the failure that is trickle-down economics that corporations will never care about communities as they are strictly a business nothing more. This extends to the special interests behind Super PACs and standard PACs when it comes to giving people options on the ballot that reflect themselves. You can Trust Tru, when I tell you, no organization or business will ever stop me from going after corporations to be treated as what they are and that is not a person. Double goes for Natural Monopolies. Both Democrats and Republicans (some not all) have incentives to not sign this or worse lie, and keep the money taps flowing, let's make governance make sense again."

"It is no secret that corporate power has hijacked our democracy. The rise of corporate constitutional rights and the flood of big money in politics have turned our government into an auction house where billionaires and multinational corporations buy influence, write laws, and silence working-class voices. This includes advancing the following: - Constitutional Amendment to overturn Citizens United because corporations are NOT people and money is not speech. - Pass the Democracy for All Amendment and We the People Amendment, giving Congress and states explicit authority to regulate campaign spending and prohibit corporations from blocking public-interest laws - Champion publicly funded elections to create Clean Elections systems and Democracy Dollars programs that empower ordinary citizens, not super PACs, to fund campaigns - Ban corporate PAC money and Dark Money and mandate full transparency in election spending - Break up and tax corporate power through progressive taxation on corporate wealth, antitrust enforcement, and ending subsidies for companies that exploit workers and pollute communities (something the Rio Grande Valley is all too familiar with) - Hold corrupt officials accountable with stronger conflict of interest and ethics laws, including bans on Congress owning individual stocks or accepting lobbying jobs after leaving office. Beyond legislation, I will use my platform to educate, organize, and build a grassroots movement that challenges corporate dominance not just in law, but in culture. This is about restoring the soul of democracy and reclaiming government as a tool in service of collective human progress, not corporate profits. "

How will you use your public office to end corporate constitutional rights and big money in politics?
"I will support expanding the public subsidy amount for candidates who pledge not to take large donations and placing limits on campaign spending. Candidates for public office shouldn’t have to spend all their time courting donors and instead be able to focus on the voters and important issues. We should provide public funding to candidates endorsed by a major party while at the same time restricting the amount of outside donations they can accept. "

How will you use your public office to end corporate constitutional rights and big money in politics?
"Using public office to address corporate constitutional rights and big money in politics involves a strategic approach focused on policy change, advocacy, and community engagement. Here are several ways to tackle these issues: 1. Advocate for Campaign Finance Reform: Support legislation that limits campaign contributions and increases transparency in political donations. Promoting public financing of campaigns can help level the playing field for candidates without wealthy backers. 2. Support Constitutional Amendments: Work towards initiatives that aim to amend the Constitution to clarify that corporations do not have the same rights as individuals, particularly regarding political spending. This could involve rallying support for grassroots movements that advocate for such changes. 3. Promote Local Initiatives: Encourage local policies that restrict corporate influence in elections, such as banning certain types of corporate contributions or requiring disclosure of all campaign donations. 4. Engage the Community: Organize forums and discussions to educate the public about the impact of corporate money in politics and the importance of campaign finance reform. Mobilizing public support can create pressure for change. 5. Collaborate with Advocacy Groups: Partner with organizations focused on reducing corporate influence and promoting democracy. These groups often have valuable resources and expertise in advocating for reform. "

"As a school board member, my role would be to ensure that our public schools remain accountable to students, parents, and the community—not to corporate interests. While a local school board does not pass legislation at the state or federal level, I can take practical steps to limit corporate influence in education. First, I will prioritize transparency in any contracts or partnerships the district enters into, ensuring they are evaluated on what is best for students, not what is profitable for outside companies. Second, I will resist the overreliance on corporate-driven standardized testing, which too often narrows education to a set of scores rather than supporting well-rounded learning. Third, I will support policies that strengthen local decision-making and teacher input, rather than ceding influence to corporations through prepackaged curricula or vendor-driven technology solutions. By keeping our focus on students, families, and educators—and by requiring openness and accountability in financial and policy decisions—we can safeguard our schools from undue corporate influence and ensure they remain a place where the community’s values, not corporate priorities, guide education."

I introduced the Protect Democracy from Criminal Corporations Act, which would bar corporations that have been convicted of a crime from political spending for a decade. I am proud to have voted for every pro-democracy bill that has come to the House floor, including the For the People Act in 2019, which included two of my amendments to reign in unregistered foreign lobbyists and and prohibit lobbying on behalf of governments that commit human rights violations. How will you use your public office to end corporate constitutional rights and big money in politics?
"I believe that for too long our government and policy direction has been controlled by corrupt politicians and the dark money coming from large corporations and private interest groups. This is not some well-kept secret. It is obvious to everyone that the people who are supposed to represent us in government have been bought and are influenced to guide policy to certain outcomes. The Citizens United ruing made it clear that corporations and millionaires are more important to our judges and elected officials than their own constituent's well-being and livelihood. I will use my public office once elected to the U.S House of Representatives to support the Movement to Amend the Constitution. The need for this Amendment is clear and we cannot as a country say that we value our citizens over corporations until we have rectified this injustice. Aside from supporting this Amendment, I support an overhaul of our campaign finance laws to include decreasing the amount of money PACs, corporations and individuals can contribute to political candidates. This will ensure that support for candidates is truly organically generated from their communities and constituents rather than allowing our elections to remain in the hands of a select few wealthy individuals. I am steadfastly committed to serving as a voice for everyday middle- and lower-class families. I believe strongly in putting people over profits and ensuring that our government works for its citizens rather than for lifeless corporate entities. I will work across party lines in Congress to ensure fairness in our democratic voting process, and to ensure that citizens of the 8th district have their voices heard in Washington, D.C. We must remind lawmakers that we are not just numbers on a spreadsheet and that the choices our representatives make have real life or death consequences for their constituents at home. "

"I believe it is essential to prioritize the voice of the people over the interests of large corporations. If elected, I will use my public office to advocate for measures that limit the sway of big money in politics and challenge corporate constitutional rights. To achieve this goal, I will push for comprehensive campaign finance reform that mandates transparency, limits contributions from wealthy donors and corporations, and promotes public financing of elections. By reducing the financial power of corporations in political campaigns, we can ensure that elected officials are accountable to their constituents rather than special interests. In essence, by using my public office as a platform for reform, I am dedicated to upholding the democratic values of fairness, equality, and representation for all, not just those with deep pockets. Together, we can build a political system that puts the people first and restores faith in the power of democracy."

"As a public official, I am committed to addressing the influence of corporate constitutional rights and big money in politics. These issues undermine the fairness and integrity of our democratic process. I will prioritize several key actions: I will work with colleagues to advocate for legislative reforms that limit the undue influence of corporations in our political system. This includes supporting measures to restore campaign finance regulations that prioritize transparency and accountability. I will actively support grassroots movements and organizations that are dedicated to campaign finance reform and ending corporate influence in politics. These groups play a crucial role in raising awareness and advocating for change at the local, state, and national levels. I will push for the expansion of public financing options for political campaigns. By reducing the reliance on big money donors, we can ensure that elected officials are accountable to their constituents rather than special interests. I will work to enhance transparency in political donations and lobbying activities. Citizens have the right to know who is funding political campaigns and influencing policy decisions. I will engage with corporations to promote responsible practices regarding their political spending and ensure they operate in ways that align with the public interest. By taking these steps, I aim to restore trust in our democratic institutions and ensure that government represents the interests of all citizens, not just the wealthy few. Ending corporate constitutional rights and reducing the influence of big money in politics is essential for creating a fair and equitable democracy where every voice can be heard."

Now they are almost daily reversing well established precedents. The sum of their transgressions are a cancer that metastasizing our representative democracy into a corporate fascist state. Article 3 Section 1 says "Judges, both of the supreme and inferior Courts, shall hold their Offices during good Behaviour...". It says that, just as we hired them, we can fire them. "Berkeley does not allow any candidate to take contributions from a corporation or business entity. We regulate independent expenditures as tightly as we are allowed, requiring prominent and transparent listing of top donors to PACs and IEs. I will continue to uphold these policies, as they allow only "real people" to participate in directly supporting candidates for office. As a general manner, I am against the "corporatization of everything." I support small and local business, and oppose big box, Amazon, and other monopolistic business practices.
