Congressional Update: 

This Constitution Day, Help Us Take the Amendment to the Senate

September 17 marks Constitution Day—a reminder that our Constitution was never meant to be frozen in time. Generations before us have amended it to expand democracy, protect rights, and move us closer to the promise of “We the People.”

As Constitution Day approaches, we're building momentum for the next necessary change—the We the People Amendment (H.J.Res. 54).

And we're entering September with some exciting news.

Three New Cosponsors!

In August, three more Representatives joined H.J.Res. 54 as cosponsors:

Rep. Adelita Grijalva (AZ-07) — August 24
Rep. Melanie Stansbury (NM-01) — August 31
Rep. Nanette Barragán (CA-44) — August 31

Their support adds to the growing number of Members of Congress standing behind a simple principle: constitutional rights belong to human beings, not corporations, and money is not speech.

As we approach Constitution Day, we're asking you to help us build on this momentum.

Take a few minutes to contact your Members of Congress using the action button below. After entering your information, you'll be connected with your U.S. Representative and Senators and given everything you need to urge them to support the We the People Amendment.

For Representatives, that means cosponsoring H.J.Res. 54. In the Senate, we're working to build the support necessary for the introduction of a Senate companion amendment—and hearing directly from constituents can help move those conversations forward.

Our Constitution has never been a finished project. Americans have amended it throughout our history when the promise of democracy demanded more of us.

Labor Day Monday, September 7: Stand With Workers—and Bring the Amendment With You!

This Labor Day weekend, we're encouraging Move to Amend supporters to show up at union, worker, and Labor Day events in your community and help make the connection between workers' rights and the fight to abolish corporate constitutional rights.

Organized labor has been a powerful force for working-class dignity and rights throughout our history. Today, corporations and wealthy interests wield enormous political power—including through the money they pour into our political system.

We may never outspend them. But together, we can out-organize them.

We've created a printable Move to Amend Labor Day flyer that you can bring to events, share with workers and organizers, and use to start conversations about the We the People Amendment (H.J.Res. 54).
