Congressional Update:

Another Cosponsor—and Another Reason to Keep Organizing

We're excited to welcome Rep. Val Hoyle (OR-04) as the newest cosponsor of the We the People Amendment (H.J.Res. 54), bringing us to 82 House cosponsors!

Every new cosponsor represents another congressional office where organizing, education, and persistent outreach have helped put the fundamental questions of corporate constitutional rights and money as speech on the agenda.

But 82 isn't the finish line.

The Next Frontier: The U.S. Senate

For months, Move to Amend has been working toward a major next step for the We the People Amendment: introduction of a companion resolution in the U.S. Senate.

This weekend, one of our longtime advocates got the opportunity to put that ask directly in front of Sen. Bernie Sanders.

After returning from several days of lobbying and advocacy in Washington, D.C., Lawrence Abbott attended a Sunday gathering in Livermore, California, where Sen. Sanders was speaking.

Lawrence saw an opportunity and took it!

He asked Sen. Sanders to sponsor the We the People Amendment in the U.S. Senate.

According to Lawrence's account of their conversation, Sanders said yes.

It was a brief exchange, and now comes the important part: Following up!

🚨 Let’s help turn Sanders’s commitment into action: Call. Post. Keep the pressure on.

Call Senator Sanders at 202-224-5141 and urge him to follow through on his conversation with Teamster and Move to Amend advocate Lawrence Abbott by introducing a Senate companion to the We the People Amendment, H.J.Res. 54.

Then tag Senator Sanders’s official account on your preferred social platform:

📞 Call today; You don't need a long speech. You can simply say:

“I’m a Move to Amend supporter calling to encourage Senator Sanders to introduce a Senate companion to Representative Pramila Jayapal’s We the People Amendment, H.J.Res. 54.

After his speech in Livermore, California, Senator Sanders spoke with Lawrence Abbott, a Move to Amend advocate and member of Teamsters Local 70. Lawrence shared that his union wants Senator Sanders to sponsor the amendment in the Senate. According to Lawrence, Senator Sanders said he said Yes!" Well, his exact words were, "Of course, of Course. I don't see why not."

I’m calling to thank Senator Sanders for that commitment to introduce this important amendment to end corporate constitutional rights and the treatment of money as speech. Thank you for passing along my request.”

Call: 202-224-5141

📣 Tag Senator Sanders on social media and ask him to follow through. Copy and paste:

Thank you, Senator Sanders, for telling Teamsters Local 70 member and @Move to Amend advocate Lawrence Abbott that you would sponsor the We the People Amendment in the Senate!

You’ve long spoken out against billionaires and corporate power. Introducing a Senate companion to Rep. Jayapal’s H.J.Res. 54 would help turn that message into lasting structural change—ending corporate constitutional rights and the treatment of money as speech so people, regardless of wealth, can have an equal voice in our democracy.

We’re ready to help you move it forward! #WeThePeopleAmendment #MoveToAmend

One conversation opened this door.

Thousands of voices can show Sen. Sanders there's a movement ready to help carry this forward.

And We're Still Growing in the House

While we work to open this new front in the Senate, the We the People Amendment continues gaining support in the House.

We're excited to welcome Rep. Val Hoyle (OR-04) as the newest cosponsor of H.J.Res. 54, bringing us to 82 House cosponsors!

Every new cosponsor represents another congressional office where people have organized, educated, followed up, and kept the We the People Amendment in the conversation

Lawrence's experience shows why that persistence matters.

He spent days carrying the amendment through congressional offices in Washington. Then, days later and thousands of miles away, another opportunity appeared in California.

He was ready.

Be Ready When Your Opportunity Comes

Congressional advocacy doesn't only happen on Capitol Hill.

It happens at town halls. At union halls. At candidate forums. At community gatherings. In district offices. Sometimes it happens because you unexpectedly find yourself standing in front of a United States senator with just enough time to ask one question.

That's why we created our new and improved Take Action Toolkit.

Whether you want to lobby an elected official, organize a community event, collect petition signatures, reach out to local media, educate your neighbors, or build a local Move to Amend group, the Toolkit gives you resources to help turn an opportunity into action.

Help Us Keep Opening Doors

Lawrence brought a Move to Amend lobbying packet into congressional offices, backed by materials our national team helped prepare. Across the country, volunteers and affiliates are building relationships, contacting candidates, and educating their communities—creating the pressure that makes moments like this possible.

When a door opens, we need the capacity to follow through.

Move to Amend doesn’t take corporate money. This work depends on people who believe our government should answer to We the People.

Our matching campaign is almost complete—we need just $1,500 more to unlock the full match.

Give today and your donation will be doubled, helping us equip advocates, follow up with congressional offices, and advance the We the People Amendment.

Lawrence opened a door. Your support helps us turn that opening into action.

Join the Move to Amend Ecology Network for a conversation with Montana activist and Eco Warrior Angela Otero, who is organizing against a proposal connected to the Montana Renewables biorefinery to inject industrial wastewater into inactive oil wells near an important regional aquifer.

Angela will share how residents are challenging the proposal, confronting corporate greenwashing, and calling for greater environmental accountability. She’ll also share music inspired by the struggle and discuss what this fight can teach us about the connections between corporate power, environmental justice, and protecting our communities and natural resources.

Whether you’re already involved in environmental organizing or looking for ways to connect ecological struggles with the movement to end corporate rule, you’re invited to join the conversation.

No Kings: Vote Early!

No Thrones. No Crowns. No Kings.

For over a year, millions of people have come together to send a clear message: in America, we have no kings. Power does not belong to billionaires, strongmen, or politicians who believe they are above accountability.

Make your plans to vote early and bring the Move to Amend mission to events in your community. Power belongs to the people, but only if we use it.

Affiliate & Advocate Spotlight: People Power in Action

What can happen when you carry the movement with you wherever you go?

For longtime advocate Lawrence Abbott, one week took the We the People Amendment from congressional offices in Washington, D.C., to conversations with candidates and labor leaders—and ultimately face-to-face with Sen. Bernie Sanders in California.

And Lawrence isn't alone. From Ohio candidates taking the Pledge to Amend, to Alaska advocates taking to the airwaves, Atlanta volunteers building community, and Minnesota reaching the point where candidates are seeking out Move to Amend, supporters across the country are finding their own ways to open doors.

Different places. Different tactics. One people-powered movement.
