The event was held on Thursday, April 27, 2023 and was attended by a diverse audience from across the country.

The Speakers were: John Esterly, Chair and Legislative Representative, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, Ohio and Clyde Whitaker, State Legislative Director, Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation (SMART), Ohio. 

Jennie Spanos, Co-Director, National Move to Amend Coalition, was the Moderator of this conversation.

During the event, the panelists discussed the impact of the East Palestine disaster on the community and the workers involved. They also talked about the legal and regulatory challenges of holding Norfolk Southern accountable for their role in the tragedy. The discussion highlighted the need for stronger regulations and enforcement mechanisms to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

Move to Amend is dedicated to creating a democracy that represents people, not corporations. We believe that corporations should not have the same rights as people and that corporate power should be limited to ensure that they serve the public good. We recognize that the East Palestine disaster is just one example of the harm that corporations can cause when they prioritize profits over people and the environment.
