Affiliate Spotlight - July 2025

This month, we’re shining a spotlight on two incredible advocates who are demonstrating how individuals can be powerful catalysts for change at all levels of governance.

Update from North Carolina:

Robert Scull, Secretary of the Wake County Progressive Caucus, has been working tirelessly to push forward a resolution in North Carolina supporting a constitutional amendment to overturn Buckley v. Valeo. After a twist in the State Executive Committee's meeting, Robert's resolution is on its way to the National Resolutions Committee, where it will be categorized alongside resolutions from across the country. This is a critical step forward, and Robert’s perseverance, especially in working with trusted members of the Progressive Caucus and staying attuned to changes in the rules, is a testament to how grassroots advocacy can shape national conversations.

Impact in New Mexico:

We’re also celebrating the work of Peggy De'Scotville, a dedicated advocate from New Mexico, who recently met with Rep. Teresa Fernandez-Ledger at a town hall in Taos, NM. After engaging in a meaningful conversation about the We the People Amendment, Peggy’s efforts paid off when the representative’s aide reached out for more information on the amendment, ultimately leading to Rep. Fernandez-Ledger cosponsoring HJR 54. This victory is not just Peggy's but a reminder that every conversation counts. Inspired by this success, Peggy is now reaching out to her senators to push for a companion bill in the Senate, with connections to Sen. Lujan’s office and a renewed sense of empowerment to continue advancing the amendment.

Join Us for the Upcoming Training:

As we approach the August congressional recess, it’s an ideal time to engage with our representatives in their home districts. We encourage all our advocates to join our upcoming training session on Wednesday, July 30th, 2025, at 3:00 PM CT. This session will offer valuable strategies for birddogging reps and making sure our voices are heard at local events, town halls, and in direct conversations with elected officials. Don't miss this opportunity to make a lasting impact!

Together, we are proving that grassroots engagement is powerful and that every advocate—whether through conversations with reps, organizing resolutions, or pushing for real change—has the ability to influence the future of our country.
