Big news:
Eighty-four Courage Candidates running for federal office in 2026 have officially endorsed the We the People Amendment, H.J.Res. 54 — the constitutional amendment introduced by Rep. Pramila Jayapal to end corporate constitutional rights and overturn the doctrine that money spent in elections is protected as free speech.
This is a major step forward in building the political momentum needed to pass a constitutional amendment and end corporate rule

The endorsements come through Courage for Democracy, a nonpartisan, grassroots PAC that emerged from the Citizens’ Impeachment accountability movement. More than 150 candidates running for federal office in 2026 have committed to its pro-democracy, anti-corruption platform.
The flow of money into political races remains a bipartisan concern. A 2025 poll by Issue One and YouGov found that 79% of Americans — including 84% of Democrats, 74% of Republicans, and 79% of independents — believe that “large independent expenditures by wealthy donors and corporations create corruption or the appearance of corruption.” According to analyses associated with OpenSecrets, total spending in the 2024 federal election cycle reached roughly $15.5 billion. Meanwhile, the Brennan Center for Justice estimates that nearly $1.9 billion in undisclosed “dark money” flowed into the 2024 election cycle alone — a record-breaking figure that researchers say likely underestimates the true scale of hidden political spending unleashed in the wake of Citizens United. Those funds influenced races ranging from local school boards to the presidency of the United States For too long, candidates have campaigned on “getting money out of politics” without committing to the structural changes necessary to actually solve the problem. That’s why these endorsements matter so much. When candidates publicly pledge support for the We the People Amendment, they are doing more than making a campaign promise — they are acknowledging the root cause of the crisis. They are recognizing that corporations are not people, money is not speech, and democracy cannot survive when billionaires and corporate interests dominate our political system. Every candidate who takes this pledge helps move these ideas from the margins into the mainstream. It creates pressure inside Congress. It builds public awareness. And it sends a message that people across this country are ready for real constitutional change — not half-measures. The truth is, we cannot solve the climate crisis, endless war, healthcare corruption, attacks on workers, or the erosion of voting rights while corporate power continues to control our political system. These crises are connected by the same underlying structure: a system that gives constitutional rights to corporations and treats political spending as protected speech. That is why Move to Amend exists. And this endorsement wave shows that our movement is growing. We are building a movement powerful enough to challenge the idea that corporations should have constitutional rights and that democracy should be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Candidate pledges like these matter because they help lay the groundwork for the constitutional change this moment demands. Together, we are making it impossible for Congress to ignore the growing demand for a democracy that represents people — not corporate power. In solidarity, In solidarity and determination, |
