1. WORKSHOP: Race to be 21st – The 21st state to request amendment
Join us --
MN Move to Amend and MN American Promise are co-sponsoring a workshop to motivate your activism on several fronts. You are invited to join us for these 'how to” workshops:
- How to Introduce the We the People resolution to your party caucus
- How to Provide testimony at MN legislative hearings on our resolutions (HF2701 and SF2038)
- How to write, email or call your state senator and representative to get them to co-sponsor the bills (SF2038 and HF 2701)
- How to write a letter to the editor
Volunteers from our organizations will guide these separate activities. Invited MN legislators will speak about the bills they are co-sponsoring and their importance to democracy.

2. Jan. 27 - Genuine Progress Indicator (GPI) with Ken Pentel
During this year’s slog toward Election Day, you may want to prepare yourself for discussions about the economy and how policy affects many aspects of life in the U.S. that you value.
Economist and 2006 gubernatorial candidate Ken Pentel will lead a discussion about Genuine Progress Indicator (GPI), a more informative measure of the economy than the quarterly reports of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), often cited by lawmakers, political candidates, and pundits.
Developed after the Great Depression as a way to gauge the country’s economic recovery, GDP reports the sum of all economic transactions in the country, but fails to report the impact of non-market factors:
Alternatively, the 42 factors that comprise GPI report the value of household and volunteer work, plus “ecosystem life support services” while also measuring “crime, pollution, sickness, and environmental degradation as costs not gains to the economy.”
Join us on Jan. 27 to learn more about GPI, and join the discussion, if you wish. You’ll be better positioned for campaign-related discussions ahead.
