The Golden Globes are back after some big changes ... and Mother Nature is raining on the award show's parade.

With a fierce storm dropping tons of rain on Beverly Hills, preparations for the Golden Globes featured lots of waterproofing ... everything's being covered with plastic until it's time for cameras to roll.

As you can see, crews are wearing ponchos as they set up the red carpet for the 80th Golden Globes, which are going down Tuesday night at The Beverly Hilton hotel.

Everything, and everyone, is under wraps ... and puddles are forming where celebs will soon be making their grand entrances.

The rainy weather for the Golden Globes is from the same winter storm causing havoc all over California ... the area where celebs like Oprah, Ellen DeGeneres, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle live is under an evacuation order.

The Golden Globes are welcoming back a live audience and live broadcast after eschewing those important factors in 2022 ... and despite flash floods, the show must go on.

When the Golden Globes returns to television screens on Jan. 10 for its 80th ceremony, the telecast won't have Tom Cruise as a wingman. Although 2022's biggest blockbuster, Top Gun: Maverick, received two nominations — Best Motion Picture, Drama and Best Original Song — the movie's star star was left out of the Best Actor lineup, where some predicted he might appear.

That omission wasn't necessarily a surprise: Last year, Cruise was one of the first Hollywood celebrities to respond to the storm of controversy that enveloped the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the divisive organization behind the Globes. In February 2021, the Los Angeles Times published an exposé that revealed, among other things, that the HFPA lacked any Black members and had a history of making ethically-questionable decisions.

Three months later, in May, Cruise returned the three Golden Globe statues he had won in years past. That decision followed NBC's announcement that the network — which was been the Globes's home for decades — wouldn't air the 2022 awards telecast until the HFPA enacted significant reforms. The organization went ahead and held the ceremony anyway, on Jan. 10, 2022, releasing the winners via a widely-mocked Twitter feed rather than on television.

After canceling last year’s broadcast, the Golden Globes are back on the small screen. Hosted by Emmy-winning comedian Jerrod Carmichael, the awards ceremony’s 80th edition will be broadcast live Tuesday, Jan. 10 from the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.

Abbot Elementary leads the TV nominees with five nods (including for best musical/comedy series and best actress in a musical/comedy series for Quinta Brunson), while The Banshees of Inisherin has earned eight nominations in almost every top film category (including best picture, best actor, best director and best screenplay). Other top film nominees are Everything Everywhere All at Once (six) and Babylon and The Fabelmans (five each). See the complete list of 2023 Golden Globes nominations here.

Eddie Murphy will be presented with the Cecil B. DeMille Award and Ryan Murphy will receive the Carol Burnett Award.
