Congressional Update

Momentum Builds for the We the People Amendment

The We the People Amendment (H.J.Res. 54) now has 70 cosponsors in the 119th Congress, a strong foundation for the growing movement to end corporate rule and make clear that constitutional rights belong to human beings—not corporations—and that money is not speech.

And now, a new lay before us: on the week of March 9th, members of Congress will be spending time back in their districts, meeting with constituents and engaging with their communities. That makes this one of the best moments of the year to make your voice heard.

When representatives are home, they’re listening.

This is a powerful time to:

  • Contact your member of Congress and urge them to cosponsor the We the People Amendment. A quick phone call or message can go a long way. When enough constituents speak up about an issue, it signals to elected officials that their community cares and is paying attention. Ask your representative to cosponsor H.J.Res. 54, the We the People Amendment, and remind them that ending corporate constitutional rights and big money dominance in politics is essential to creating a political system that truly represents people and communities.

Contact your representative now!
  • Attend town halls or local events and ask where they stand. When members of Congress are in their districts, they often host public events, town halls, and community meetings. These gatherings provide valuable opportunities to ask direct questions and bring attention to the need for systemic reform. Asking publicly where your representative stands on the We the People Amendment helps bring the issue into the spotlight and encourages accountability.
  • Encourage candidates running for office to take the Pledge to Amend.
Candidates for local, state, and federal office can commit to supporting the We the People Amendment by taking the Pledge to Amend. When candidates publicly support the amendment, it helps build momentum for the movement and signals that addressing corporate power and money in politics is an issue voters care about. If a candidate in your area hasn’t taken the pledge yet, encourage them to do so.

  • Support the movement with a donation.
Grassroots movements depend on people power—and the resources needed to organize, educate, and advocate for change. Your financial support helps Move to Amend continue expanding this movement, mobilizing communities, and pressing Congress to pass the We the People Amendment. If you’re able, please consider making a donation to help sustain and grow this work.

It’s easy to assume the fight to end corporate rule only happens in Washington. But the real pressure doesn’t start inside the halls of Congress—it starts in communities where people organize, educate, and push their local leaders to take a stand.

Across the country, Move to Amend affiliates and volunteers are doing the steady, strategic work that keeps this movement growing: building relationships, advancing local resolutions, educating the public, and getting candidates and elected officials on record in support of the We the People Amendment.

This month, we’re shining a spotlight on the work unfolding in Atlanta, Alaska, and Florida—three places where organizers are proving that real change begins with persistent grassroots action.
