Congressional Update: Momentum Is Building on H.J.Res. 54

This month, we’re excited to share continued momentum for the We The People Amendment (H.J.Res.54) in Congress.

In January, Rep. Sam Liccardo (CA-16) became a new cosponsor.
In February, Rep. Shri Thanedar (MI-13) joined as well.

That brings us to 70 cosponsors, plus our lead sponsor, Rep. Pramila Jayapal.

Each new cosponsor strengthens the case that people across the country—across districts and regions—are demanding an end to corporate constitutional rights and the domination of big money in politics. This progress is the direct result of sustained grassroots pressure: phone calls, emails, meetings, and people refusing to let this issue fade into the background.

Take Action: Call Your Representative

Momentum only continues if we keep pushing.

Please take a moment to contact your Representative and ask them to cosponsor the We the People Amendment using our One Click Politics tool. It makes reaching your member of Congress fast, easy, and effective—especially when used consistently.

Our usual tips for maximum impact:

  • Use One Click Politics to call (calls matter most), or send a message if calling isn’t possible.

  • If your Representative is already a cosponsor, thank them and ask them to encourage their colleagues.

Every call reinforces that this amendment is not symbolic—it’s urgent, and people are paying attention.

Other Ways You Can Take Action:

If you’re ready to plug in more deeply, we’re hosting a Volunteer & Advocate Onboarding Call later this month. It’s a great way to learn how Move to Amend works, explore different ways to get involved, and connect with others who are organizing for this amendment nationwide.

(You’ll find full details and the RSVP link in the Community Calendar below.)

🏘️ Get involved in your community
Change doesn’t happen only in Washington. Check to see if there’s already a Move to Amend Affiliate Group in your area. If there isn’t one yet, we can help you start one and connect you with others who are ready to organize locally.

Support this movement financially - As you may imagine, being 100% grassroots funded is not easy. In order to survive and stand up to big money in politics, we need every resource we can get. This holiday season, Alfonso, consider making a donation to Move to Amend to ensure this important work can continue.

This movement is growing. The amendment is gaining traction. And with persistence, courage, and community, what once seemed impossible is becoming inevitable.

🌱 Ecology Network Call

Please note: This Ecology Network call has been postponed by one week and will now take place on Thursday, February 19, at 7:00 PM CT. We’ll be joined by Anaid Zapata, a union organizer and environmentalist with Sunrise Movement RGV, for a timely and evolving conversation.

While the specific focus of Anaid’s remarks is still taking shape, the call will explore connections between labor, environmental justice, and frontline organizing, with space for reflection, questions, and shared learning. More details will be shared soon — all are welcome to join.

Join us to learn, connect, and imagine what we can build together.

Across the country, Move to Amend affiliates continue to organize, educate, and take action—connecting local struggles to the larger fight against corporate rule.

From op-eds and public statements to tabling, coalition-building, and relationship-based organizing, affiliates continue to show what sustained, people-powered work looks like on the ground.
