Nearing our $15K goal by October 31 - Your help needed now

Dear Friend of Move to Amend,

Thanks to those who've already contributed nearly $10,000 toward our $15,000 match drive that ends October 31.

We need to raise a little more than $5,000 by Friday to be matched with $15,000. Every donation counts, no matter the size. Help us blow past our goal!

A Story That Should Wake Us Up

Recently in North Dakota, a court ruled that Greenpeace must pay at least $660 million to the oil and gas giant Energy Transfer — for defamation and “inciting protests” against the Dakota Access pipeline. (The Guardian)

Think about that: a company with nearly limitless resources sued a nonprofit for standing with an Indigenous-led community, and won. This wasn’t just about money. It was a legal hammer aimed at silencing dissent. As constitutional law scholar groups warned, this verdict poses a chilling threat to free speech and to the right to protest. (The Guardian)

When corporations use their power — including their legal and constitutional “rights” — to crush resistance, they send a message: “You can’t challenge us.” But we refuse to be silenced.

Why Your Support Matters More Than Ever

We are in a moment where power is consolidating at the top, where corporate interests exert pressure on politicians, courts, and media. And yet, ordinary people, communities, and activists, remain the most powerful force for change if we stay united, organized, and funded.

Right now, we face a funding gap that, unless closed quickly, will force us to scale back urgent programs that:

  • Educate and resist following the No Kings protests on how authoritarianism and corporate rule together Plunder Democracy
  • Secure additional congressional support for the We The People Amendment
  • Sponsor programs that highlight the need to organize with other groups to democratize the Constitution that includes but goes beyond the We the People Amendment -- including this November forum
  • Strategizing internally and with external organizational allies how to adjust our work in 2026 to more visibly and powerfully resist the increasing economic, political and social threats of corporate rule and authoritarianism.

Every dollar you give now is not just a donation. It’s a lifeline for democracy.

A Call to Act — Before It’s Too Late

Some will say the attack onf Greenpeace is "just one out-of-state case”, but that misses the point: the strategy deployed in North Dakota of using the legal system to bankrupt dissent is the same one that big corporations and their allies want to replicate everywhere. This is all going according to their plan.

But this is not inevitable, and it’s worth fighting for our future. History shows that movements funded by many small, principled contributions resist that pressure and endure.

So here's our urgent ask:

  1. Give today. Even a modest gift matters. We are so close to raising the $15,000 that, if raised, will be matched.
  2. Share this message far and wide. Encourage your friends, family, and colleagues to stand with us.
  3. Stay engaged. We will send updates on the impact of your gift and invite you to participate in key actions where you live.

Your gift today is more than financial support. It’s a vote for a future where communities, not corporations, determine their paths.

Onward in creating an equitable democracy we all deserve,

- Move to Amend National Team
