Can we end the Climate Catastrophe under corporate rule?

December 12, 2018

As we shared with you Monday, you have made all the difference in 2018 and helped us SHATTER our goals for co-sponsors on the We the People Amendment in the House of Representatives. Amazing!

Move to Amend is ready for 2019. Our Strategic Plan to Pass the 28th Amendment lays out the path we have to follow and next year we’ll need your help to keep up the pace. Our goals include:

  • Getting the We the People Amendment re-introduced in the House of Representatives and ending the year with at least 75 co-sponsors
  • Getting the We the People Amendment introduced in the Senate and ending the year with at least 10 co-sponsors
  • Collecting at least 100,000 signatures on the Motion to Amend and expanding our reach
  • Growing our endorsing organizations and partners and bringing other groups to the amendment movement

There are lots of ways you can be involved in making this happen for 2019 and we’ll invite your participation on all of it soon -- but first we have to close out 2018 in the black.

Every year Move to Amend and countless other groups catch up on meeting our budget for the year during the month of December… if everything goes according to plan. That’s where you are key. We need everyone reading this message to pitch in right now or we won’t be able to keep up our winning pace.

People ask me often why I am part of the fight for the 28th Amendment.

I am here because the two issues that I feel are most critical -- stopping climate catastrophe and implementing universal health care -- don’t stand a chance unless we get corporations out of our government.

Sure Move to Amend is my job, but I don’t do it for the money (the joke would be on me if that was my incentive, ha!) -- I do it because I haven’t found an issue that gets more to the heart of our broken system than this one. And because of that I work on Move to Amend EVERY DAY. And I donate to Move to Amend every month. Will you join me in making a year-end donation today?

So why do you Move to Amend?

>> Is it so that your grandchildren have a livable world?

>> Is it because you’re anguished about the mass species extinction that humans are causing?

>> Is it to save the oceans from plastic and pollutants?

>> Is it because it breaks your heart that people are dying because they can’t afford to go to the doctor in time to catch their cancer? Or can’t afford treatment once diagnosed?

>> Is it because you hate the fact that the prison industrial complex works with our government to ensure we have the highest incarceration rates in the world -- locking up more people (mostly black and brown folks) than any other country?

>> Is it because someone in your family is addicted to opiates pushed by Big Pharma?

>> Is it because you’re devastated over the lives lost in endless wars to line the pockets of weapons manufacturers and military contractors?

These are all reasons I’ve heard from Move to Amend supporters like you.

Whatever your reason, there’s a place for you in this movement and we need you all-in for the year aheadStarting right NOW with a generous donation to help us raise $75,000 before December 31.

There are so many worthy causes, and I hope you support them too, I really do. But step back for a minute and think about whether they can be won without the We the People Amendment.

>> Can we end the Climate Catastrophe under corporate rule?

>> Can we implement Healthcare for All under corporate rule?

>> Can we stop Big Pharma, or Big Ag, or the Telecommunications Industry, or Big Oil, or the Prison Industrial Complex or the Military Industrial Complex -- under corporate rule?

I don’t think we can. We need the We the People Amendment.URGENTLY.

I know it is daunting to imagine how we can win given where things are right now. But what choice do we have but to lay it all on the line in the fight to assert that the future must be about protecting our rights, our humanity, and our planet against unprecedented greed and corruption by the ruling elite.

We can do this, but only if we all give it everything we've got!

Thanks for all you do for this fight.

Yours for democracy and for the 28th Amendment,
Kaitlin Sopoci-Belknap
National Director, Move to Amend

P.S. Please support the fight of our generation right now and make a year end donation to Move to Amend. And then please ask your friends and family to join you. Americans have come together to amend our Constitution before. We will do it again!
