Q: How will you use your public office to end corporate constitutional rights and big money in politics?
A: Corporate influence has become pervasive in US politics and the institutions it is charged with operating to provide the best possible outcomes for its citizenry. In Minnesota, the state in which I will be elected to serve in the House of Representatives, there is growing support to amend the state constitution allowing greater flexibility in educational institutions. Its sole purpose is to allow for the growth of private and/or for-profit schools. These schools would then be permitted to receive state funding with little or no accountability. This stands to dismantle the state education system and expand racial disparities in education; where Minnesota already ranks near the bottom in the country. I will fight for fully and equitably funded public schools by implementing a fair tax system that ensures all citizens and corporations pay their fair share. It is my hope that we drive corporate interests out of politics. Decisions made at each level and in each branch of government should reflect the voice – and be in the best interest – of the people.
