ALERT: OHIO'S WIND ENERGY INDUSTRY IN DANGER OF EXTINCTION

June 12, 2014

As early as Saturday morning, Governor Kasich could sign the 2014 Budget Bill, House Bill 483, into which has been slipped two items that could destroy Ohio's wind energy operations and manufacturing:
1. SC1265 - Specifies that the minimum setback for a wind turbine to be at least 1,125 feet in horizontal distance from the tip of the turbine's nearest blade at 90 degrees to the property line of the nearest adjacent property.
2. SC0809 OBM - Removes provisions dealing with prior-year baselines for alternative energy benchmarks.
Presently, the setback is 1,125 feet + blade length from residences.  If the above goes into effect, according to the Lobbyist Dayna Baird, who represents the American Wind Energy Association, the new setback language would “effectively kill all wind development in the state of Ohio. ...We can’t be competitive in Ohio’s energy market by leasing tens of thousands of acres of farmland for just a few turbines."
Governor Kasich must use the line-item veto to rid Ohio's budget of wind farm set back
