CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio -- In place of the usual Monday night Village Council meeting March 10, the village hosted “Move to Amend Day.”

Chagrin Falls hosts “Move to Amend Day” once every two years so that residents can speak their minds concerning government topics.

Specifically, the event looks at the impact on the village by political influence of corporate entities -- including unions and political action committees -- in regard to the most recent state and federal elections.

This year’s response to “Move to Amend Day” exceeded expectations, as the village’s council chambers was filled to capacity and then some -- with attendees spilling into the hallway.

In 2023, at the last “Move to Amend Day,” approximately eight people attended the event, council members noted.

Residents of Chagrin Falls and neighboring communities were given five minutes each to speak about government issues that affect their lives or they are passionate about.

Former Chagrin Falls Board of Education member Kathryn Garvey started the speeches by criticizing the State of Ohio’s school voucher budget.

According to Garvey, the use of vouchers has expanded and has resulted in $103 million in budget cuts to public schools.

The majority of attendees criticized major corporations bankrolling political campaigns.

Additionally, residents were concerned that major corporations own Northeast Ohio housing, which has created rent spikes in recent years.

Chagrin Falls Council President Angie DeBernardo believes “Move to Amend Day” is an important day on the village’s calendar, because it is a non-partisan way of being problem-solvers in the Chagrin Falls community in a civil way.
